I am using DP3.11 w/ Kontact MAS. On a simple song I get processor peaks at the start of a note. Once the note is past the initial start the processor meter goes back down. Is there something I can do to fix this? I am using a G4 QS 800 w/ 1gig ram and a Delta 1010. OS 9.2.2.
    Thanks

I get peaks as well and only since the update. When I loop audio the cpu usage gets higher and higher until it drops out.

I reinstalled the 1.1.1 update and the spikes went away. Clearly this has something to do with DFD. However, switching DFD off didn't stop the problem.
I am either not going to be able to use the new features, or simply continue to use Giga, which I am lucky enough to have working fine on it's own PC.

NI, is this a known issue and is it being addressed?

Have you tried using Kontakt on your Giga PC yet? I use Kontakt on my PC and hook it up to my MOTU Mac setup. It works great that way imho. I send the sound of the Giga and/or Kontakt machine through ADAT digital direct into the MOTU gear's digital ins so there's no quality loss.

I could do that, but I was trying to get the PC out of the mix. Looks like it isn't possible yet. In fact, I very well may do that seeing as I would be able to have multiple instances available. I will be setting up a larger production studio this fall with possibly an o1v96 and a 2408mkIII. Are you using a master clock from a dedicated clock generator for you system? You can reply to chris@dragonwind.org if this is getting too OT.

    Hey Chris,

I have a 2408, 308 and 24i controlled by the MidiTimePiece AV's clock. The word clock is sent to an aardvark unit which sends the clock to the MOTU gear as well as a Digimax 8ch. mic pre, an ART Digital Tube Pre, and a Pod Pro. Everybody syncs up nicely. PS. I also have Radikal's SAC-2k and the TC Powercore. Love 'em!!!

I also had thoughts of running Kontakt with the Mac and taking the PC out of the mix. I think even if things worked better though, that that's asking too much of the Mac and will take away from other cool things it can be doing like playing 40 tracks drenched in effects and stuff.

The first test I did was record a sequenced series of quarter note drum beats through the following:

Kontakt on PC, to lightpipe to Motu to Mac
Kontakt on Mac, via VST Wrapper to Digital Performer track
Kontakt on Mac, via Kontakt's native MAS plug
Giga on PC, to lightpipe to Motu to Mac

I was surprised that all the mixed down audio versions from Kontakt came in very close to the MIDI beat's placement. The Giga did the worst of the four tests. I'll do this experiment again with the new DFD features and see how they do.

The lower you can set the buffer, the better it will get. I suppose I am asking my one QS800 to do too much anyways, seeing as I run Reason 2 on it as well. That seems to eat only a small amount of CPU. However, when I put in this new studio, I will get a new mac, so I may be able to run Kontact on one.
Let me know how your further tests go.
