Program Changes in Pro Tools

I cannot seem to figure this one out. I have watched the video, read the manual, I have played around... but I cannot get them to work as I think they should - or even how they can be useful. Let me explain.
Scenario... two one bar patterns - Scene 1 and Scene 2. I put in a program change on bar 1/beat 1 for Scene 1, it plays fine. I put in a program change on bar 2/beat 1 for Scene 2. On the Maschine screen, it jumps to Scene 2, but it keeps playing Scene 1 for a full bar and then changes to playing Scene 2. Basically, it continues to play the existing Scene one additional time, regardless of where I put the program change. For example, I put the program change for Scene 2 at bar 1/beat 2 thinking that maybe it needs to anticipate (because it can't change scenes instantly). It still plays all the way through one more time before switching.

So, how do I use program changes to string together a bunch of scenes - because they seem to always need to play twice before switching to the next one.

PS. I still can't figure out the freaking metronome either... it drops the accented beat every other time! So, TtttBtttTtttBttt where B is blank. I do note, that the demo songs don't do this - but I cannot figure out what is different between a new project and one of the demos.

 

i managed to get Maschine to change form scenes 1, to, 2, to, 3, back to 2 in a 4 bar cycle.

EDIT ok, i see what you mean... however... if you change the sync settings of the Scene to 1/1 it should cure your problem. at the moment you probably have it on Scene. the thing is, if a Pattern goes on for 2 Bars, the scene won't change unless you have it on 1/1, then the scene will change every bar. when Scene is ticked, then the scene will last for as long as the longest Psttern.

with the metronome, you just press Shift and then Play whist holding the Shift down.
the start of the metronome syncs with the Pro Tools clock.

Thank for the response... but no go ;-(. I am totally bummed because I can't actually use it really until I figure this out. It doesn't matter if the sync is set to Scene or 1/1 - it still won't change until an extra bar goes by. I tried this with a clean project and a demo one (I cut the length down on all the demo parts to 1 bar and made sure they were looping every 4 beats). It changes exactly 1 bar after the program change is sent (even if I move the program change a bit earlier... doesn't matter). Ahhhhhhh.... What the heck am I doing wrong?

Also, still have the same problem with the metronome. I know how to turn it on - and it is in sync with Pro Tools - its just doesn't play the accented beat every other bar (even when PT is looping on an uneven number of bars).

BTW, Pro Tools 8 TDM CS2 on 10.5.6 with 1.02 of Maschine.

Once I figure this out, I will be ecstatic - very, very cool tool as a plug in inside of PT.

fwiw, i am using Pro Tools 7.4.2 LE on a Macbook OS 10.4.11

i have uploaded a Pro Tools session with Maschine, where the scenes are changed by programme change.

you should be able to load it into your Pro Tools. i woul be interested to hear if you get the same problems wit this

Thanks so much for sending this... but, no change. Here is what I did.
- loaded up your PT session
- put a dif drum sound on three pads (first three pads)
- created A1 A2 A3 - each of them with a note on the quarter
- assigned A1 to Scene 1, A2 to Scene 2, etc (so, S1/A1/P1, etc)
Expected behavior on your 4 bar loop would be...
S1A1, S2A2, S3A3, S2A2 and repeat.

What happens is...

S1A1, S2A2, S3A3, S2A2, S2A2, S2A2, S3A3, S2A2, S2A2, S2A2, S3A3, S2A2, S2A2, S2A2, etc

Or another way to write it...
123222322232223

Consistently wrong. So, I thought, hmm, what happens if its a five bar loop and I put in a program change back to S1A1 on bar 4... I would expect 1232112321 here is the result...

123221233112221 and then I gave up because there doesn't appear to be any consistent pattern.

BTW, the appropriate scenes are lit up on the software each time there is a program change - but what is played back is not. So the correct scene is selected, but the little progress bar below indicates the actual scene playing.

Oh, on the the 4 bar loop, the accent beat appears to be dropped on bar 1 beat 1 every 2x through the loop.

Completely unusable. And, so far to me, completely inconsistent and/or unexplainable.

Curious - is anyone using Maschine in conjunction with PT8 HD?

 

but did you try my original structure, without changes?

i have just checked it again, and Group A clearly plays A1 - A2 - A3 - A2.

i will ask some people to look at this thread, but i suggest you contact tech support.

I opened your file... I see the program changes, but there were no sounds or patterns. So I loaded single sounds on three pads to create patterns A1 - A2 - A3. Then I hit play and got the response on my email above. Doesn't seem to work. Boy I would like to know if there is some nutty thing I have set wrong. But, I used your file... and changed no settings except to load some sounds and create the patterns.

ok, sorry...i presumed that my instance of Maschine would load the same factory groups that i used :|

maybe i'll save the Maschine project and re-upload.
