    Quick question -

New to Traktor Pro. Playing some gigs abroad next week and to save taking my lap top I am planning to play on my friends who already has his over there.

My question is do the beat grids and que points ive stored save to the track file? The point being if I take my tracks over on an external portable hard drive will they show on his traktor pro?

If anyone knows the answer please let me know.
    Cheers!

i`d suggest, you take them from your traktor library.

    or wasn`t that the question?

As long as they are not wav files.

What about the stripes and transient files? arent they associated with the tracks?

i think at this point we need a detailed walk through with al the extras! why would wav. not work but the others would? i'm just confused.

Wave files do not support embedding tags or anything else in the file. Traktor puts this info in a separate database file. Most (all?) other formats support embedding tag info into the track and traktor uses this to put BPM info, hotcues etc into the track. When you move the file to another machine Traktor will read the info out of the file.

Good question MixMeister I can't remember where this info is stored.

Do I have this understood correctly then?

I can take all the tracks on my HD and move them from the music folder on my OSX desktop to an external firewire drive, then before a gig move some of them back onto the HD and TSP will preserve the cue information etc?

    yes.

e.g. i prepare my tracks on my desktop pc, then export those tracks to a usb stick and transfer them on my gigging laptop and everything's there (analyzation, cue points, grids, loops, text tags)!

you'll probably have some hassel with the file paths if you use an external hdd, but that doesnt affect the tag writing.

if you're sharing an external hdd between computers, you should assign a fixed drive letter to that drive to avoid that your computer will see it under a new drive letter and then you would have to relocate all your tracks because the paths aint right any more!

Just to clarify, you don't export them for within Traktor..

Right Click Track Collection, then Click Export Collection..

Do you mean if you simply move them to an external HD via cut and paste or something, I presume the hot cue, genre (anything written to a tag), these will stay in the file.. right? I'm presuming yes since above it does state it writes it into the tags on the actual file. Just wanna be 100%. Thanks

    yes, it works either way!

but if you export a playlist you will get along with files the playlist file (*.nml), which keeps your tracks in the order (interesting for e.g. a special set).
