Question regarding update from K11

So I have Komplete 11 Ultimate. On my offers page it says I can either update or upgrade to Komplete 12 (basic). Now I have read the FAQ re update, upgrades but I am still none the wiser in what each option actually means from a practical perspective.

Can someone please explain in simple language to a simpleton such as myself, the difference between update and upgrade?

 

IIRC going from Komplete 11 Ultimate to Komplete 12 Ultimate is updating - same package type (ultimate), only the number changes.
But, for example going from K11 to K12 Ultimate is an upgrade. Upgrade is, when the tier of the package is different: select < "normal" < ultimate < collector's edition.

In general the included content is the same, regardless if it's a full, upgrade or update version license (of the same product).
As von Klamke mentioned above: depending on the base product (which qualifies you for getting the cheaper update or upgrade license), it's either an update or upgrade path.

 

Okay thank you both von Klamke and solger. I think I understand it now. So really seems the cheapest upgrade or update path seems the best choice. Thing is I have found there is a huge amount of Komplete 11 Ultimate I never use, particularly the orchestral instruments, so looks like Ill just go for the Komplete 12 normal version,

 

Thats exactly what I want to do too, but by updating to Komp12 basic version will we loose the instruments available in Komp 11 ultimate which we already have or once had ?

 

No. Basically all of the additional/new K12 products will be added to your current installed ones. So you'll have all the products/instruments from both (K11U & K12 basic) available.
