    Hi all,

    I'm using an older MAC G4 w. OS 9.2.2/832mb/500mhz and R4.02 standalone.

When I open the Properties box, or the Audio/MIDI settings, it takes a really long time for them to appear. When I try to change something in the properties dialog box it also seems to take a very long time to do anything. I'm not sitting here with a stopwatch mind you - but I'm guessing 5 - 10 seconds or more at times. I realize my mac is pretty slow for a g4, but is this normal?

    Thanks in advance,

    BC

I have had no such experience under OS X. Is your system dual-boot? If so, have you tried it under X just out of curiousity?

    thanks for your reply John,

I don't have OSX on this particular computer because I'm still only using Logic 4.8.1 and rely heavily on vst instruments like Absynth, Stylus, etc. so I'm stranded for the moment in OS 9.2.2

Unfortunately I don't get to dictate when it's time to upgrade things at the studio but I was informed we have two G5's in the budget for next year. By then it will time for Logic 6.x and perhaps Reaktor 5?! Things should be slammin' but until then.....

I also find the R4 transport controls to be slow and sluggish as well. My best guess is that it's due to my slow puppy G4. But it's still puzzling me because the ensembles I'm using are nowhere near maxing out the cpu, yet it behaves as if it is. I've allocated plenty of ram to R4 - I don't remember the exact amount but it's around 150 - 180 mb.

    Hmmmm - what to do?

Are you running it alongside anything else or just solo?

Same thing happens to me with the audio/midi properties box. Though I'm on a PIII 933/512 Mb with Win XPpro. Everything else seems to respond normally, it's just the audio/midi dialog that takes several seconds to open and implement chnages. I'm using a Midiman midisport 2x2 and an RME Digi96 if that makes any difference.

interesting - I guess that's just the nature of the beast. R4 must only like very fast computers. No shock there I suppose.

Well.. that doesn't really make sense though. I'm actually quite surprised at how well Reaktor performs on my system - I mean it *is* getting on in age and some plugs really push the cpu to the limit- I'd like to know why I can run all of these sick ensembles with no problem and yet it still takes a matter of seconds to display and configure audio/midi info.

Granted, I only really configure these things once so it's not a problem or anything... just a curiosity I suppose. I like to know how things work. :)
