Reaktor drum machine with 'organic variation' / analog style smush?

I love the sound of classic drum machines for the slight variation you hear in the claps, hi-hats etc. - as they're not just a perfect sample triggering again and again.

I'm bored of drum racks in Ableton, as triggering a sample on modern gear means you just get that sample back perfectly every time. Do you know of any drum machine ensembles that incorporate a bit of 'analog' sounding smush?

Have you tried the Niji drums blocks? They were a free prezzy from NI.
These are modelled on old analog drum machines. No samples here, instead various VA models, e.g. hats use 6 detuned pulse waves, cowbell uses 2 pulses... similar to hardware 808 drums.

This means you get some variation due to free running oscs having different phases when you trigger a sound. You could add some saturation and whatever for some grunge... and of course you can modulate various controls for extra variation.

... you mean ... even with sample offset on random and combining impulse in abletons drum rack to trigger simpler /sampler or the other way around to achieve random shapes on vel even your vel is 100%?

this actually all sounds pretty cool, but I'm a noob on this kind of thing, and a sucker for using other people's time invested in capturing nice effects!

Oh thanks man - nope we're from London, but somehow Chino Moreno picked up on it (I think via Antony Fantano)

Sadly that project's on hold for now, but DM me if you like for some other WIP. Also please send links of what you're up to!
