I just did a forum search on "vst compile" and got a whole bunch of hits. If you look at any thread titled; "reaktor wishlist" or "new feature request", you'll see it listed.

There are some of us (like me) who see no need for NI to put time into adding a feature that serves no purpose other than to allow people to sell their reaktor creatures to people who don't own reaktor.

why should all reaktor-made vsts been sold?a lot of people benefit from free plugins. The reason to buy reakor would still be ability to reverse engeneering, creation, collaboration and customizing of instruments. i guess they didnt have to use any of the reaktor engine in the vsts but clever use of convolution\ir to capture combinations of instrument parameters so the plugin gets completely a life on its own.

The ability to list instruments and effects ensembles in vst plugin windows would be fantastic. Alot of the time I use Reaktor for a specific effect or instrument, so it's kindof annoying to have to open Reaktor, open the ensemble (usually have to browse around for it as the open dialog tends to default to a different location each time!), choose a new name for it, choose a new autosave location for it (again, the defualt location is never the correct one and I keep my ensembles in the same place every time).

Being able to drag Carbon2 straight onto a track in Ableton and start playing would be really great.

If your really interested in an environment kind of like Reaktor that DOES let you share your stuff with others as VST/AU/RTAS. Check out MAX/MSP. It's not as pretty as Reaktor but you can export and share your apps using their freeware "runtime" apps. I'm not too sure how to do it, but I'm pretty sure that you can also compile your own running apps that don't need the runtime environments.

If your feeling even more ambitious (or if you just want to get a feel for the MAX/MSP world) you might check out PD (pure data) which is an open source project dedicated to building a new language based on the MAX/MSP model (it's main creator is Miller Pucket, one of the people responsible for MAX/MSP). It's still in it's early stages and the documentation isn't the greatest. But it's powerful and FREE!

I'm not trying to undermind NI. Nor am I trying to push anyone away from Reaktor (I've been using Reaktor almost as long as their's been a Reaktor and I LOVE IT!). You just have to look at it for what it is. A proprietary environment with it's own rules and limitations.

    Cheers.
