Hi Joseph and anyone else interested.
To get Midi to go from one application to another on the mac you would use the IAC bus in OMS. You can use this for Reaktor OR, you can just make sure that reaktor is setup to receive its midi via OMS and when you have a midi track in ProTools and Reaktor is open-> A virtual midi node pops up with the name Reaktor. Just chose that!

    thanks, but . . .

Chris, thanks a LOT for replying to my query about Reaktor, MIDI and Protools! (see below):

I do have Reaktor and PT communicating via the OMS IAC bus, no problem. I can easily record audio output from Reaktor on audio tracks in PT. What I CANNOT do, and whait I would LOVE for you to help me with :) is send MIDI from Reaktor to PT and record it AS MIDI in PT. The reason I want to be able to do this is that once its recorded as audio (instead of MIDI) I have trouble synching to it with additional tracks of MIDI. I have to estimate instead of using the precision features like quantize that are available in MIDI.

So, can I send a stream of MIDI data from Reaktor to PT and record same in PT?

    Thanks in advance!

Ok, this is quite an undertaking for PT users but i will describe the method used to send/record midi data from Reaktor-> into ProTools.

First up is an understanding of how the two applications communicate. They talk via OMS-> and use a virtual midi note as the means to send midi data to Reaktor. This much i am sure you have working as it is the first step in getting reaktor triggered via PT. So with that said the next step is figuring out how to get midi data from Reaktor into ProTools WITHOUT having a midi loop issue-> this would not be good. So goto the midi settings in Reaktor because they need a bit of a modification-> set the midi output port to IAC Bus number 1. This would make sure that the midi generated by activity in reaktor is sent out through the IAC Bus.

Now go to PT and create a new midi track to receive the data. On this midi track make sure you tell it to receive its input from the IAC Bus. (go to the midi menu in PT and chose the midi input devices and check the IAC Bus option)

Record enable both midi tracks (the one sending the midi to Reaktor and the one receiving the midi via the IAC BUS) and you should be ready to rock. Twist and turn in reaktor and as long as the knobs/faders you are moving are setup in their properties to have panel to midi checked (and they are assigned midi CC numbers) then you will be able to record this knob movement data.

    Good luck ::chris_borgia:: (NI)

Thanks! I"ve been trying, sut so far no joy. I may not have described my
issue clearly enough: What I am trying to do is send midi data from
Reaktor"s sequencers, e.g., six pack, into PT to record in PT as MIDI.

Ihave not yet been sending MIDI from PT to Reaktor, instead, I"ve been
sending audio from Reakto to PT. I would like to send MIDI notes from the
output of the Reaktor sequence six pack into protools AS MIDI via the IAC
    bus.

when i created a MIDI track in PT and tried to set the input as the IA bus,
it would not let me -- it was greyed out. So, I"m still at a loss.

IAPPRECIATE YOUR EFFORTS TO HELP ME! don"t give up, we can get this!

also, i am clear on what you are trying to do and this is will let you do just that.

    let me know ::chris::

    clock sync

Midi into Protools. To do what? Drive Reaktor in return?

If you want to run a session from Protools, and have six pack rocking out via midi, then you should set a Master/Slave relationship between the clocks. Make ProTools the Master(internal) clock, and set Reaktor to External clock. Then you should be able to hit play in Protools, starting up the six pack sequencer, and then you only have to record the midi controller data from the panel into protools. The tempos should match exactly. If this actually works, then you should be able to record all of your performances with Reaktor. And play them back, adding yet more movements.

Sorry if I mis-interpreted the goal...

Gosh, I"m sorry to be so dense.

I tried you idea of enabling the IAC bus in protools and it is now
    selectable, no longer greyed out.

but it is my old Dynamo IAC bus (before I got reaktor), and there is no
Reaktor IAC bus, so I don"t know if that could be the problem, i.e. i need
to reset up my IAC bus.

but anyway i checked (in PT midi) both the boxes for dynamo IAC bus and for
Reaktor (it doesn"t say IAC after it) and tried it the way you said using
each of these in turn, but no midi notes came into PT even the record button
on that MIDI track was on.

I know that what is hanging me up here is something extremely small and
simple. I REALLY appreciate your kind help in troubleshooting this.

All I need to do (for now at least!) is to feed midi from Reaktor sequencer
into PT and record that MIDI in PT.

What do you think my next step should be? And please, accept my sincerest
and humble thanks for your willingness to help me. . .

i have not been able to determine how to set reaktor to external clock. i
do see external synch, but chekcing that did not solve my problem. . . and
i"m not sure this approach is really going to do what i want to do which is
play it in reaktor (already sequenced in reaktor) sol that it records as
midi in ptle and can be added to, quantized, etc in PT. . . .

Re: ...Please help me, I am slow

I just got reaktor, it is the bomb, and I am trying to thi same **** with ProTools free using OMS, I cannot get Reaktor to record into PT Free, to record notes and tweaks. The only success I have had is using QWERTY and CapstoMidi, but that is shitty. What am I doing wrong. My setup is IAC bus 1 chan 1 out, and in, it it does not work. However, from PT Free I can drwa notes and play them on Reaktor, but this is also ****. Anyone who helps, thanks. I think I am slow, cause this seems quite simple.
