The smallest things can take up such a large amount of time.

All I want is one little thing... a copy of ReaktorMaker.

There is no link for it anywhere convenient on the NI site. A search for ReaktorMaker on the general site search produces no results.

On the off chance someone might have hidden something so central for Mac users as that in the User Library, I searched there, and J-lo and behold, two different versions... created by users.

The older version isn't actually called ReaktorMaker, it's called something like "Mac File Type Changer (Reaktormaker)". Anyway, the file is missing and can't be downloaded.

The newer version is called ReaktorMaker 2.0. It downloads... and then sits there on my desktop doing nothing. It's just a document file, not an app. (How ironic that a file typer utility has the wrong file type.)

But anyway I don't want some user-uploaded file typer. It's a freestanding application. An application can be a Trojan horse.

I want the "official NI ReaktorMaker".

I want it in convenient locations -- on the updates page, as a featured link in the User Library interface, wherever ensemble downloads occur.

And would it be too much to include it in the Mac R4 update installs?

that version "ReaktorMaker 2.0." is the one i use still. it is fine.

place your downloaded .ens .ism and .mdl on top of it.

and voila.........the files will change to the reaktor icon.

    try it.

Are you using OS X? If no, Reaktormaker is no longer needed.

I never even considered something might be a trojan horse. Did you used to be a windows user or something? ;-)

Have you tried downloading both of the ones in the library, then rebuilding your desktop? One of them oughta work after that.

i wrote a little realbasic app that does the basics (modules, instruments, ensembles). i've only tested it in osX, but if you want, i could send you an os9 version. let's you drag single files or folders to the window/app icon. deals with mixed file types within a folder.

email me if you're interested: scarecro AT tfwo.org

You just need to adjust your internet control panel. Extended parameters, assignments (don't know the precise expressions as I'm not using an English OS9) - there you can link the different extensions with Reaktor, so anytime you d/l an instrument with missing resource fork, it gets associated with R4. Works for me.

ReaktorMaker is basically a macro of a program called FileTyper. FileTyper essentially changes the metadata in a file so that it is associated with a specific program. There is a free OS X program that does something similar called FileType. http://www.frederikseiffert.de/filetype/

With FileType, you need to add the file type in the right-hand column. So, pick a reaktor .ens or .ism file to be associated with the FileType database. Once you have the file type in the dbase, you can add all your unassociated reaktor files to the left-side box and hit the change button for instant file type reassignment. I know this sounds vague, but the program is very intuitive and this will make instant sense when you open it.
