Thanx. But it is off course not exactly about that laptop, but it's more about the system spec's. So what about an intel Core 2 Solo SU3500 (1,4 Ghz, 3Mb Cache and 800 Mhz fsb) and TSPRo? A good combination?

    Marc,

The IBook is still at least £150 more expensive and only had 2GB Ram compared to 4GB on the HP. The HO also has a 15.6" screen compared to the smaller 13.3". If the HP will run Traktor Pro and Ableton without problems I think I'll go for it as I'll also be using it for personal use.

    Thanks for the help

    Deano,

I was not agreeing on your arguments (price and os):

    Price:

Your last option (touchscreen) is listed for 799.-
829,- gives you 4 GB on the Macbook (2 GB is enough for Traktor: 749.-)

Plus, you will have to invest in antivirus software (50,- a year and a strain for your CPU)
Plus you'd have to buy Window 7 too. (150?-200?)

So you can add 250 to all your PC choices for the first year.

    Ease of use:

Well, Macs have a reputation to be much easier to use. And it is true.
I used to work with windows, and I have seen many, many problems.
Fixed a lot of them to, but I'd rather avoid them altogether. (Ghost images and such)

    Performance:

My Mac idles at 1,5 of the CPU load. Never seen that on a windows machine.
OS X is a streamlined OS and does not need Antivirus.

    True, the screen is smaller.

Basically, this is a choice that will be important for you for the next 3-5 years.
I'm sure you will be able to build a nice setup.

In the end, I'm only trying to help man.

    Good luck.

Deano asked for advice, I'm giving mine.

At the moment, we are discussing cost and performance.

    So, my comments were relevant.

If you have something intelligent to contribute to this tread, please do.

    How is the timecode issue?

You are writing evangelistic , obsessive, unsubstantial Mactaliban propaganda not discussing anything, everybody read those zillion times - Mac superior OS ,getting viruses with Windows, "my life changed since I got Mac" - it is beaten to death, give it a rest, enjoy your Mac, let others do and use what they want.
Edit: Thanx for asking, I already forgot about .that, damn, I was really mad at NI, funny read. No it didnt get fixed, anyway i am practically minded, use what works, no much complains still on 1.0.2 since "it works out of the box" (pun intended). Hope the big update will fix it all but will definitely check it first on second computer.

Deano was thinking between Mac or PC. Hence my advice.

Don't be aggressive man. Brings you nothing.

Besides, I will beat you up. ;)

Aggressive ? Just teasing you, since you know anyway that those virus/ windows threats are obsolete. People get viruses because they go to sh... sites, open spam mails, bring it on themselves out of stupidity and not because of Microsoft.
True if someone does not want to do any research (seeking right model, ask on forums like this) it is better/safer to go Mac. High end or budget, whoe really seeks will get more for less choosing pc notebook. Easier OS or whatever.... it is all same for user with experience.
Anyway, enough of internet break, got to get back to my work now.

OKay, I see that the acer 3810T isn't known very much. But lets say that I thinking of buying a laptop with Core 2 Duo processor T5250 1,5 ghz, 3 Mb Chache, 800 FSB. . . .

Would that be largely enough to run Traktor Scratch Pro?

I would at least to go for a 2.0 GHz - 2 GB RAM machine. Minimum - for any OS.

:-( That's bad news. Today I decided that it will be the Acer 3810T-944. I haven't bought it yet, but al the spec's are (where) just right. Small for work and enough processorcapacity for Traktor. . . . .

I am wondering why NI is advicing to have a P4 1,4 ghz if a U9400-processor with 1,4GHz, 3Mb L2 Cache and 800Mhz Fsb has almost 4 time more passmarkpoints. I think that the P4 that NI advices isn't even running on a dualboot clean XP-install. I bought my TRaktor Scracth Pro already (that was easy) but the laptop is a pain in the nek!

Monday last chance at the store. I need it next weekend on a gig.

OKay, I bought the Acer 3810T-944 (INtel Core2Duo U9400, 4Gb RAM). It works even with Vista very smooth. HAs a latency of 5,5Ms. I just had it installed in a sober way. So just Office, Skype and Itunes (And Traktor offcourse). Saturday I had a 8 hours gig and nothing went wrong (That is: Nothing went wrong in the software. . . :).
