I'm thinking of getting an AK1 to use for live DJ'ing with my laptop.
Anyone recommend me a mixer to go with it for the setup illustrated here - http://www.native-instruments.de/index.php?id=audiokontrol1dj_us (about half way down the page)
The Ecler one that NI mention is way out of my price range. Is it possible to get something suitable for between £100 and £200?

    Hey,
Well since your djing digitally had you looked into any Midi controllers?I use the X Session Pro and it works an absolute charm. Its cheap and best of all assignable so you arent limited by the conventions of a mixer. You can pretty much make any button do anything you want. There are other controllers i know like the Faderfox so look into them.
Theres also an update of the X session which is laid out more like a mixer that you might like. The pluses also are these are USB connected so no power supply and some are plug and play.
    Hope this helped somewhat.

    Peace.

thanks - that's really helpful - I've been trying to decide between a mixer or a controller and I'm edging in the controller direction. I fancy the faderfox - I'm just not sure how it would work in conjunction with the AK1 - I'm guessing it'd plug into the midi?

well I ended up getting an x-session pro controller (there doesn't seem to be a fader fox to be had for love nor money in the UK at the moment). Anyway, it was a stupid idea because it doesn't work with the Traktor 3LE that comes with AK1.

In fact I'm having real latency problems with the AK1 too so I'm not really very happy with it.

Back to the old DJ Console I think ....

    Hi Kirk,

It's interesting that you say you're having latency problems with your AK1 because I am too. Mine will be running along nicely at around 18ms latency and then it will suddenly start jittering and distorting, and on occasion cutting out altogether. I've upped my latency to 21.5 ms - don't know whether that will help. It just seems rather unstable to me tbh. Not what I need when I'm DJing out and the thing goes funny and cuts out twice!

Is this similar to your problem?

to be honest I don't really know if "latency" is what my problem is ... there's just a really noticeable delay between what I've got in the headphones and what's coming out of the speakers. Which makes cuing up tracks really tricky cos what I hear in the 'phones is out of synch with what the punters would get if I was playing live, as I whack the crossfader over ...

    not good.

And this was supposed to be an "upgrade" from the DJ Console ...

    Hi Kirk,

Did you try changing it to User Defined Settings in the Control Panel?

I dont own a AK1 but my friend has one and he changed the latency to 2ms and it was working great with Traktor 3.

I tried setting it to 2ms and the sound quality deteriorated horribly - Daleks singing christmas songs anyone?
