    Hey,

I'm attempting to record a mix using Audacity but I'm have trouble because my PC doesn't have a line input, only microphone. I'm guessing I need another sound card right? Or is there another way to record with the audio dj 4 only. Tanks a lot for the help

    if you're usign timecode: no
i have once connected the record out of a mixer to the microphone in of my pc and it worked fine

but for basic recording a cheap 10 soundcard for 10 bucks will do the job

Normaly, even on cheap PCS, you can choose the input level (Line or mic) in the internal audio control panel settings.

You might be able to set it to line. What hardware do you have?

    Sound Blaster Audigy SE

I have used a Sound Blaster Audigy SE (Creative) for about 5 years in 3 different computers. It has line in/mic that seems to work fine, although it might not be the cheapest soundcard around.

    it's cheapest here: http://www.amazon.com/Sound-Blaster-Audigy-Se-Varpak/dp/B000CF0ZXK

or browse other ones on newegg:

I have a hp dv6700 with vista.. how could I set it to line?
    ---
So all I would have to do after installing that is run a cord from from mixer to the blue input correct?

30 bucks and it's not the cheapest around? Ha! If you buy something cheaper it might doesn't even sound. What are you using for djing? This? http://vintage-record-player.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/-42292505929016010.jpg :D Buy yourself a decent soundcard, all the Soundblaster range suck, they made more noise than music, they are a jock, I think a DJ or a real music lover should provide a bit of quality sound to his ears and for his crowd without having to go ****ing expensive but a 30 bucks soundcard it's just ridiculous.

I just realized internal sound cards are only for desktops, not laptops. I'm using a laptop

just look for external usb soundcards. If you are looking just one for computer usage and sound a creative one would be fine, but if you are looking for pro audio quality then you may need to spend more money for like a Audio DJ 4 or something like that.

So basically it's impossible to record with the audio dj 4 alone without a line input? What the hell is up with that lol

Well if you are using timecode, it's not because all inputs are already used by the incoming control signal.

But if you are mixing without timecode control, it's possible (in Traktor Pro of course, as in duo recording option is not present.)
