    hello,
i am stuck as to how to go about recording audio songs made up of scenes, patterns etc. First in standalone and then in vst mode in Live. Audiohijack is a solution but not the one i'm after.

    Thanks

Hey brianvega - that is a pretty vague question. Can you be more specific? I could guess as to what you are trying to do, but I would rather not waste my time :)

Load your sounds to pads...record those pads into patterns...then you can load a pattern from each group to a scene...change to scene 2 and load the patterns you want there...rinse, repeat. Or you can duplicate scenes if they need to loop a few times.

I will put it this way : in Live i can play a series of samples, record midi and record the result. That result can be exported in WAV format and we can call that an audio file. I would like to do the same with Maschine...
Record my output, record a whole session....

You need to make scenes using patterns...your scenes can be exported as an audio file

    thanks KDilla,
i'v been laying down some nice patterns and know how to do that; ok, now HOW do i record complete audio files (not just short 1 bar shots)-what buttons, what dropdown menu will bring me there ?

I was wondering: My Maschine is in the mail and I used to have an MPC and there were.

    Sounds, Tracks, Sequences, then Song.

What is this in translation on the Maschine?

How do you do this with other VST Instruments?
    ---
    This explains the Maschine structure:

Now let's not hijack this thread anymore.

    Lotuz,
(example of what i do without Maschine) :
When i record a ten minute session in Live, i can go back to the different tracks, tweet them etc. then export in to a wave file the ten minute session, ok?
How do i do the same 1° in Maschine standalone mode ? 2° With Maschine in vst inside Live ? When i tried recording the Maschine vst in live all i get is one track that endlessly repeats my loop with no automation (when i record a reaktor vst in Live, it will record automation of the vst.).

    thanks,

I downloaded the getting started manual, on page 62 (chapter 8 managing projects) it starts with:

"In this chapter we will show you how to use MASCHINE effciently: you will learn how to
save different elements of Projects independently so that you can easily use and fnd them
for other Projects. These functions are only available in the MASCHINE Software. You will
also learn how to export audio fles from Groups, Sounds and the Master Output."

Is this want you are looking for?

I don't know about Live, but when I export the audio from Cubase to a .wav file, then every scene change and all automation is included.

    specialjustin1,
i'v read both manuals and they explain in detail how to export patterns, groups and scenes BUT it's not explained how to record the whole output together.

    Lotuz,
i understand that you export a complete song made up of scenes; but what about some live jamming with effexs etc, can that be recorded ?

Then you need to route the Maschine outputs back to an audio track. Any Live experts here that can tell how you do that in Live?

Automation can be recorded, but "live jamming" as you want to call it...well that's not how the Maschine works. Just record a new scene or pattern of your really awesome "live jamming" and then export that. You're asking a redundant question, it makes no sense. You've literally just not tried. What's the difference between exporting a "live jam" and just recording it first, then exporting afterwards? One mouse click, and that's what you're complaining about?

You can always tell when people spend more time whining than they do making music when they ask stuff like this.

We don't all work the same and different working methods are interesting imo.

In Cubase I'd add a stereo bus and route all Maschine outputs to that bus.

    http://www.native-instruments.com/forum/showthread.php?p=537110

Then I'd create a stereo audio track with the Maschine bus as audio input.

I'd probably use the Maschine controller in MIDI Mode to switch scenes (Scene MIDI Settings/MIDI Note) and to control the assigned Macro Controls. So I'd create a MIDI track with the Maschine Controller as MIDI Input and Maschine as MIDI Output.

Then I'd press record on the Cubase transport panel and I'd record the audio of my live performance in realtime.

I could also record the MIDI at the same time. Then I'd have the possibility to edit the scene changes and Marco Controls and then re-record the edited song. At this point I could also export the audio instead of record in realtime.

Is this what you have in mind, brianvega? Then you need to figure out how to do this in Live.

thanks for being so considerate !
i put Maschine as vst in Live on a midi track and bussed each group to 8 different audio tracks which made a perfect 8 track recording of my song. Success.
But the midi version of this is not working.
Maybe JFuller is right : i'm defeating the purpose of Maschine and (unconsciously) trying to reproduce Live. The whole work ethic is so damn different than live that i am taking ages to grasp the "flow".
For instance if i want to mix the instance of one clip into another how do you do it without the notion of tracks and volume (i know there are 8 dedicated volume knobs) but you lose them if you control something else). Many obvious gestures seem complicated, and for the moment i'm getting more pain than fun.

It's the main difference between Live and Maschine for me, and it's how they work so well together imo.

I use Maschine to create a bunch of clips, drag and drop into Live, and then mess around with putting them together. Live is perfect for that, I've not found anything better.

Maschine is perfect for quickly and simply creating loops with a bunch of kits/instruments/samples and using hardware to do it.

The combo of the two is a match made in heaven. I need to decide whether to get a Launchpad or the APC20 (both are $200 I think) to complete the setup.

    jfuller,

i know it's great for beats; but i also build tracks built on uneven rythms, compositions based on pure sound against sound, and that's where i 'm trying to take Maschine and it's a less obvious task.
I have apc40 and launchpad. The apc is very very nicely integrated in live and the faders are (for my taste) just right.
launchpad is also very well integrated but with less subtle control on volume etc.
Pads can be set to midi mode as well. The apc40 does not but the apc 20 does have midi mode also.
So sometimes i will be surrounded by a 128 monome (love it), the apc40 for triggering clips, launchpad for controling racks, and Maschine is still hesitating...

I would think about either lowering your expectaions of Maschine or replacing it with something else. No being nasty but Maschine seems to be the weak link in your setup. Maybe some other controller would suit you better?
