So I recently got my Guitar Rig 5 and it works great by itself , I plug my guitar with a PL cable and a 6.3mm to 3.5mm jack to my pc. (not a proffesional audio card)
It gets tricky when I want to record my guitar via guitar rig with cubase 5.
I plug my guitar to my PC in the same way but no signal coming in (even though it works alright in Audacity)
Nothing seem to work, any help ?

I assume, you're running guitar rig as a vst plugin on an audio track in cubase.
If not that's the way to go.
And don't forget to turn on the monitor button on that particular audio track.
Maybe you did forget to configure the input channels in cubase. if so, then press F4, go to the input tab.
create a mono input and select the input channel where your guitar is connected to.

    Hope I could help

    cheers

    Thank you,
a quick one, I pressed F4 and selected 'Add Bus->Mono' but it says the device port is not connected (and my guitar is 100% connected to the PC), what is the problem?

    mhhh,

do you have any other audio program running simultaneously ?
maybe one is blocking the input ports. You should close all audio programs before starting cubase. even programs like vlc media player.

What soundcard driver are you using when running Guitar Rig standalone?
I'd try to use the same one in Cubase, since it is does work there.

If nothing works I'd recommend an external soundcard anyway. Doesn't need to be anything fancy, there are already good ones for a low budget out there. Only make sure it has a hi z input for your guitar.
