    Hi.
I use TS and the Audio dj. I was wondering if there's a way to plug directly the turntable into the card in order to rip my old vinyls...

Thanks in advance for your help.

    Regards.

Yes, just plug your turntable into inputs 1/2 or 3/4. Hook the TT ground to the terminal on the Audio8. Select it as the input source, open the Audio8DJ Settings tool, select PHONO, adjust your input gains and you should be good to go. If that doesn't work, run your turntable into your mixer then into the Audio8's 5/6 or 7/8 input.

Can anyone recomend any software that will let me record (rip(both records at the same time.

I see Soundforge 9 can record multi track which would work but it's expensive.

Recording (3K+) records to disk is taking quite a while!

Finally got a version of Audacity via the apple web site. Very nice but thought it was quite clunky.

I went for Logic Express (overkill but makes recording 2 decks at the same time very simple). What was interesting was that it sounds better putting the decks straight into the Audio 8 rather then through a Urei 1620.

    A couple of points though:

    1) the RCA inputs on the Audio 8 are terrible! they are not long enough to get a good connection.

    2) Can I boost the input level of the internal phono amp?

Just sceen the post about the setting tool - that should allow me to change the input gain of the phono amp.

Theres nothing at all surprising about recording straight into the Audio 8 being better than from the Urei mixer. The simpler the audio chain, the better.

As an aside I've always wanted to try out those old Urei's.

Anyway, I do agree with the RCA's on the Audio 8 being a bit short, especially when the 'collar' on the RCA you are plugging in is also short. I find the multicore cables fit quite snuggly though.

As for the phono level - have you checked your settings in the Audio 8 settings tool?

I've not got the settings tool - I'll install it tonight and have a play. the cleaner the path def makes a difference, the stereo seperation is much better and makes it worth while using Apple lossless over MP3.

Urei mixer is fantastic, not having a gain starts to make complete sense after a while. The sound is great too.

I see someone on the board has an E&S DJR400 - they great too, I'd love to get one!

Yeah that part kinda sucks, I always wondered why that was done that way. However one of my Monster Cable-equipped Techs has gone belly up and I'm currently in process of repairing it. In the meantime I picked up a used Tech12 from a buddy's shop. Its cables were replaced with the orangey-red/grey Hosa RCAs and the collars fit just right on the Audio8's inputs. Sweet.
