I've noticed lately that if I record with the grid set to a quantize grid such as 1/16 Maschine feels like it's very restricted, almost like bad latency..

Please note: I do not have quantize rec/play or even quantize rec enabled..

If I turn off the 1/16 grid and set it to off, it feels looser and more normal..

My question is why if I have the grid enabled does it mess up the feel.. It should NOT restrict the feel of timing. It should only quantize what I play on the pads..

    Does anyone else notice this?

btw my latency is set at 2ms..

any idea's? tips? obviously recording with the grid off, everything feels just right..

also I should note, this only happens when maschine is in play mode..

No I actually don't want to quantize record... Please re read what I first wrote in my original post.. I'm talking about the feel when grid is enabled.. vs. when the grid is off..

I'm not talking about enabling quantize at all..

Please note: I do not have quantize rec/play or even quantize rec enabled..

If I turn off the 1/16 grid and set it to off, it feels looser and more normal..

sooo.... if you don't want to quantize record why do you have the grid on at all?

just to be clear: you're saying that without quant on, but with the grid set to 1/16 you experience greater latency while PLAYING the pads than you do with grid off?

its that the case, i can't help you, b/c i've never once experienced that, and have zero idea how that could happen.

    happy to help.

I think i understand what your saying. Your saying that it got a better bounce when the grid is off. I too notice this there is a huge diff to the bounce when you take the grid off. I think it has to do with the ppq. think you have alot more ppq when it turned off. I noticed this to if i have the grid on. Nomatter if its 1/16 or 1/128 u kinda get a mechanical sound even if u didnt pad 5 it afterwards

for 'bounce' ... increase the swing ... even a small amount can de-mechanise an overly straight feel.

I thought I noticed this before but not sure.

One thing is that I sometimes forget to turn the swing off on the group or master. Maschines knobs are sometimes sensitive and the master swing will jump if you brush by it. Check that both swing settings are at zero. If swing is on then the grid settings affects how that swing is applied since the swing is applied based on the grid.

It could also be that the ppq is lower like 128 vs 960 when grid is on. Could someone from NI comment?

I just always assume grid, by default, will effect the playing/feel of a sequencer, so I leave it off. If I'm not trying to quantize, I have no reason to have it on anyway.

I actually look at the grid as a quantize of sorts lol.

What I'm saying though is this.. if you enable grid,(only reason I would have it enabled,is for the convience of it,if I know I'm going to be eventually quantizing certain notes to this grid)
BUT it shouldn't affect the feel, until the notes are actually quantized..

for example - on an mpc - your grid is set at 1/16,but you won't feel it,unless you quantize, same thing with any daw, unless your recording with quantize on.. which I'm not..
b-righteous or joe, if I were to play pads in bpm with grid on 1/16, again, the feel doesn't change, this wouldn't happen, this is weird why Maschine is doing this..

idk I guess I need to set the grid to off/

    hey b,
yeh both swings def @ zero, I think you may be on to something with the ppq.

This could be a good question for the on the record. I already used my question.
