I have a midi track for flute playing a fast passage. But when I playback, I hear a lot of white noise( the Breath Noise). Is there anyway, I can reduce the amount of white noise in Kontakt 3?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

CS: apart from EQ/filtering which sampleconstruct suggests, it's really hard to answer the question without seeing the instrument because we have no idea how that particular instrument was constructed.

Attached you will find the score. The instrument is Sustain X Flute. Compare to other patches this creates the most satisfactory result and the least breath noise, IMHO.

I don't see an instrument named Sustain X Flute in the library, so unfortunately can't hear the patch or deconstruct it. (Note that I am using the K4 library and have trashed the K3 library. Maybe this existed in the K3 library? Or are you referring to some other library?

Thanks David for the reply. Attached you will find the passage played by that patch (ziped mp3 file)

I have just ordered K4 ( upgrade). I assume I still will be able to use my patches from K3.

I dont know how you're using kontakt, as in whether you've assigned instruments to Sibelius, or whether you're working in a sequencer, so I dont know whether you want a quick fix, or whether you're willing to do whatever fine tuning to get the sound you want.

The problem is not that you're hearing breath and clicks, the problem is that you are hearing exact replications of the same clicks and breath articulations repeatedly.

I have kontakt 3, but I cant find an instrument titled sustain x flute, but from playing around with some of them, there are some basic things you could do. One is to vary the velocity. As you can see, the score you showed us has the flutes playing triplets, so accent them accordingly. Also make sure that you arent getting breath sounds because the velocity is all set at 127, meaning the flautist is playing double forte.

Try shortening your note length. When a flautist re-articulates the same note, the sound briefly stops as the flautist attacks the next note. Giving a brief pause will simulate this. You can also play with the decay in the edit instrument thing to see if that helps.

Something I did with this (using the (stac 1 X) flute) is use 3 different tracks, and put the pitch knob up or down 1 or 2 semitones for 2 of the tracks. If I didnt like an articulation, I just moved the notes to a different track and adjusted them to sound at the correct pitch.

Another thing I did was I assigned the attack value to an automation channel in logic, and varied it slightly throughout. I'm talking like between 25 and 75 ms at the very most. I suppose you could vary the decay that way as well if you werent satisfied. It depends a lot on whether it's serving as texture or toward the front as a solo. If the rest of the score masks it, then you can get away with less.

I know that's kind of a lot of fuss for such a short segment, but... that's sort of what happens when you're using virtual instruments with a passage like that... I think.

I attached it, so... is that kind of what you're looking for?
