    getting Pro 52 serial number

OK, I'm really confused. I am already a registered PRO 52 user, apparently. I do not have a serial number anywhere that I can find, so I cannot re-register Pro 52 without sending stuff to Germany!?

It won't let me request a Pro 53 serial number, either. I get an "unauthorized access" message, in a tiny window that won't even expand so I can read it all!

The registration/protection process is insulting and redundant, and unless NI fixes this immediately, they can forget about my purchasing any further NI software. They can also count on my posting about this problem to every single mailing list/group of which I'm a member.

    This is absolutely unacceptable.

I guess I feel the need to add my 2 cents worth here...

I am having the same problem as everyone else trying to download the Pro-53 update. Since I work with computers, computer systems and the people running them, I am pretty understanding about the problems that can occur in a situation like this. There must be thousands of folks trying to download this update and any glitches are magnified greatly. To some degree, I feel sorry for the NI people dealing with this issue.

That said, I must agree with others here that there is enough copy protection on this upgrade if you must have the original disk to install it. It is nothing short of ridiculous that we have to go through all this aggravation just to download a file. This is not the first time I have had a problem like this! I went through something very similar regarding FM7 and the extra sounds available with the Sounds Vol. 1 disk.

I'm sure that everyone here will agree that NI makes some of the finest software products of their kind. I, for one, am very pleased with FM7 and Pro-52 and am considering purchasing 1 or 2 other synths from them. HOWEVER , this whole issue with their web based registration verification process is by far the weakest side of this company and they should wake up and address it, now! This problem does not help their public relations at all !

    [Flame Off]

Thank you, NI, for your wonderful products. This problem won't stop me from considering your other synths, but, for what it is worth, I am not happy, tonight, and I feel like I could have been doing something fun (like playing with my new Pro-53) instead of beating my head against a wall.

I'm getting confused trying to follow this.

Earlier today, I went to the update site, clicked straight on the pro53 update file, entered my regular user name and password and downloaded it OK. At no time was I prompted for some Pro53 serial number although my Pro52 serial number is registered with NI.

Incidentally, the link for registering the Pro53 was not working and disabled.

So I have the update sitting on my hard drive waiting to be transfered to my DAW. When I stick it on my DAW this evening, will it ask for a Pro53 serial number as well as the original Pro52 CD? Or will I be able to install without a Pro53 serial?

I'm not going to grumble about this as it is a free update but is there an official explanation available for how this all works please NI?

    Many thanks,

    Mark

    Re: Same problem

Does anyone know the proper format for the Pro-52 serial number? I see a few posts down that Stringbot figured it out but he didn't reveal the secret formula >:)

    Oh, right ... sorry!

the format was "no dashes, trim the leading zero"

Also, this morning I was finally able to d/l the Pro53 updater on the first try. Yay.

The NI Web programmers need better beta testing :)

    Thanks!

Hey Stringbot, thanks for the info. It all worked! Geez, I feel guilty that it went so smoothly, except for that one problem...

I tried both login/passwords that I previously had saved for NI products. Somehow niether work anymore. I tried to update my user account, but can no longer even logon to do so. I tried every e-mail account I've had over the last two years in the request for new password page, but this doesn't work either. I tried to re-register the Pro-52 that I purchased on 7/01, but got some "serial # length not correct" nonsense (yes I did type it exatcly as on the registration card - even tried with the "-" combinations, but my original Pro-52 did not have dashes). I e-mailed support regarding this, and have yet to hear a reply. I have purchased Pro-52, Battery, & Spektral Delay, and am somewhat frustrated with the NI support of their products regarding the hoops & hurdles to get patches & updates.

Ok - I just tried this after getting home & I was able to re-register my Pro-52. Now I'm just waiting for an e-mail with my 'new' new password. Thanks Stringbot. It's kinda sad that we have to find out this information from other users, since I can't find these details on their site, and have had no reply from my e-mail to support.

OK. Got my password. Guess what? it is the same password that I have been trying to use & gets rejected. So I was able to update my registration, & have verified that my username/password is correct, but now I am back at square one with the same logon problems - Cannot access my account. Cannot change my password. Cannot request a new password. Cannot download any of their sacred protected files. Have you ever seen one of those dogs chasing their tails?

Alrighty then. Sorry for my multiple posts on the same issue, but all is good in the world again. It looks like I was able to update my password after all. I think it would be helpful for end users if NI would explain about the serial number syntax in the help box (regarding dropping the first '0'). Also, it seems that my account information was correct in the confirmation e-mail, but I still had to request a "new" new new password after re-registering the old software from the "request new password" box. The "request new password" box finally accepted my e-mail after re-registering Pro-52, but not before for some reason. Even though that is the e-mail address that I had registered all my products under previously. Anyhow, after all that work, it's time for a bonger & a beer!
