If the metric dimensions are correct, the length is the same as the MK1 version (about 54.7”) - disappointing for those of us with an Output Platform desk. I would have loved to buy one of these if it fit in that desk. I’m now heading back to the list of 88 key options here https://output.com/platform/keyboards to find an alternative brand that fits. Congrats on the product though - I will live in hope that the Platform owners’ dreams will be realised whenever you release the MkIII version ;)

IMHO Output messed up with the design of that desk horribly. You just can't NOT support so many 88 key boards... ~1400 mm is about standard for them if they have pitch/mod block.

    You sir, are totally correct!

Lets blame it on having a ton of different fact sheets for every new product, and me going blind from staring at it.
That, plus me not knowing anything of the imperial system, so not realizing those numbers couldnt be right :)

    So the correct dimensions are:
    1390 x 346 x 115 mm
    54.7" x 13.6" x 4.5"

And the weight: 13,2 KG / 29.1 lbs

And I dont have any other info on the keybed/poly aftertouch, that would be a question for Adil @ NI or Tim @ NI

Well if you want a piano or synth feeling, obviously Roli won't work for you. But it does do things Midiboard (or any other keyboard, for that matter, except Haken Continuum) could never do. It's a new type of controller with many new possibilities. A really cool piece of gear. :)

I agree the ROLI is a perfect complement to an 88 key studio

    So what about MCU.

When the original MK2s came out last year apparently this was been worked on or discussed to be implemented again. So has it been brought back with the 88mk2 or Komplete 12?

No MCU yet, it's apparently still being worked on.

So, considering that its been a year since. Would it be safe to assume NI are not bringing this back?

Anybody can assume whatever they want, really, but none of the assumptions are ever "safe". :)

If they are working on it the reverse is more likely, the problem is how long this takes. Better communication would help.

I suspect their design choices were driven by many more variables than the length of the largest 88 key boards e.g the board sizes most commonly sold, the most economical freight dimensions, and standard wholesale timber widths etc. The level of design thinking evident in the other features leads me to think it was (unfortunately) a calculated design choice in order to mass produce and distribute cheaply. Anyway, it’s a missed opportunity for NI - they could have had one of the only 88 key boards that does fit in it, and nabbed some customers from other brands in the process.

I'd rather say it's a missed opportunity for Output to have many more desks sold by it supporting many more 88 key boards. :) They needed probably 5 more cm (2") to satisfy the great majority of 88 key boards. Hell, even less for some boards. Say, Kurzweil PC3K8 is 138 cm wide (54.33"), which is less than a 1/10 of an inch over the limit of Platform's keyboard tray. Heh.

Yeah. I ended up with argosy desk as it would hold my pc3k8... which has TP40/L keybed by the way. Hoping the new S88 has comparable or newer version. GH would be nice, but doubtful as one nirmally only sees that in pianos.

Same boat. And Output needs to shave another 1/2" off the available keyboard space they have listed. They didn't account for the piece of slide that rest on the shelf on either side.

Agreed! Despite their long list of boards that do fit, there are more that don't.
