No need to reload, just press "!" in top right of Kontakt.

I just purchased Butch vig drums and while it sounds fantastic, there is no general midi keymap which essentially renders keybord drumming impossible for me. It's weird that is was made for kontakt and yet the keymapping isn't laid out how most of us would be using this. For instance, I can't start a track with modern drummer (or any of the drum series from NI for that matter) and switch to or layer the butch vig drums Without pain. Is there a way to change the key mapping? if not, there really needs to be an update that addresses this and lets us switch to a GM layout. As it stands now, I can't use this in my workflow.

Thanks in advance for any responses.

Create a User kit that follows the GM spec..granted you only get the first 16 notes...but will be sufficient in most cases.

Edit, to clarify, you get can assign drums to the C1-C#2 portion of the GM Spec. and be aware you can only assign a Sample to One pad, so say for Toms...you need to use 6 individual samples instead of three split over 6 pads...

How do you do that in butch vig? I couldn't get it to work. Besides, I love the kits that are in their now. I don't think I should have to create try and try to recreate all of those kits that sound absolutely awesome as they are. If I could re-assign existing pads that would be enough for me but short of that, this is something NI can do. Thanks for the response.

Select User Kit from the Preset Menu, Click on Kit, select a Pad, select a sound group. select a sample...Its all in the Manual...(section 7 "Kit View")

It seems like a lot of work. I’d prefer NI just make gum kits in an update. I do t think that’s asking a lot. :)

Many sounds in BVD kits don't fall into the General MIDI drum map, so it was a conscious decision not to do this. Plus, 16 pads is also a clue as to what should be used to trigger the sounds, too :)

However, as an alternative, you can use the factory multiscript Change Keys to remap 12 keys into 12 other keys, which should get you going for the time being. Or, you can use the factory multiscript Remap Keyboard to completely change the mapping of all 128 keys (well, you only need 16, so loading Change Keys script twice would also work).

Thanks for responding. By multi script do you mean going into edit mode and moving the key mapped samples around? That’s not an area of kontakt that I’ve spent a lot of time in.

can we at least re-assign the pads by clicking on the pad’s visual key assignment? I was surprised I couldn’t to this to begging with.

sorry, by that I mean how it shows what note the pad is assigned too. If we could just click on that and change change the snare to d2 and e3 without having to go into edit mode.

I see where you are coming from with respect to not all sounds fit into GM mode but is sure would be nice if we could easily remap pads without having to go to edit mode.

No, by multiscript I mean pressing the KSP button in top right and loading the Change Keys or Remap Keyboard presets. You don't need to go into instrument edit mode at all.

Pad note reassignment is not implemented, and is currently not planned.

oh damn, I had no idea you could do that. That will do the trick. Thanks buddy. These are some of the best drums I have heard in a long time. :)

Following the tip above, I opened Butch Vig Drums in a standalone instance of Kontakt and can control it from Maschine MK3, which is connected to my Mac via USB. The MK3 is in midi mode, and I'm also using it as my audio interface. I set pad #1 on the MK3 to C1, but at first I didn't get any sound in Kontakt. By trial and error I found that using "Maschine MK3 Virtual Input | Port A" is the only port configuration that works.

Why does this port work? What is "Maschine MK3 Virtual Input | Port A"?

It works because you have the MK3 midi out set to use Port A of Kontakt. If you go to Settings -> Midi -> inputs, you will see the MK3 is assigned to port A (1 of the available 4 ports so you can effectively have 64 midi channels)... here is what the manual says.
    "
    • MIDI Channel: This field indicates the currently assigned MIDI input channel that the Instrument
will respond to. Clicking on it will open a drop-down menu that allows you to select a new
MIDI channel for this Instrument. The Omni setting will make it respond to MIDI data on any
channel; below it, the available ports of your MIDI interface will appear as sub-menus, each
one containing the 16 channels of the respective ports. Note that the maximum number of distinct
MIDI channels that you can use is 64 in the stand-alone version of KONTAKT, and 16
when using KONTAKT as a plug-in."

Blindeddie Thanks for the response ... that explains why "Maschine MK3 Virtual Input | Port A" works. But why doesn't "Maschine (Maschine MK3) | Port A" work? That is - why does only the virtual midi input work?

I'm a bit frustrated with Butch Vig Drums, as it stops playing after five minutes and will only play again when you switch kits. Is this a glitch, is it happening to anyone else. For me the only way to use this awesome sounding drum plugin is to record the audio.
Any help would be much appreciated

OS? DAW? Specific example or steps to reproduce? I have no issues with it at all...

Ok, I will give it’s try in that environment. Question, is this behavior exhibited with any other Kontakt library? Or just BV. And I assume by stops, you mean “no longer plays any sound”...correct? No crash or errors to report?
