Remix Decks Question - Play at beginning of Sample each time I hit remix button on S4

Seems like a dumb question but I cannot figure this out. I would like to have a 16 beat loop sample triggered when I hit the 1st remix button on the S4 mk2. But I'm not able to have the sample trigger at the beginning of the sample. It loops in the background and when I activate the sample, it plays where ever it is in the loop (could be 4 beats into it). I read the material and watched the tutorials and I know how to turn off quantize button to the upper right of the remix deck. Still doesn't work. This was while working in Deck C and using a loop sample that I created in the loop sample feature of S4. When I change deck A to a remix deck and dragged the sample there, it worked better. But I cannot get it to work in Deck C. I've messed with just about every setting (punch mode, changing to 1-shot, etc) and cannot get it to work. It feels like its a bug, but I bet I'm doing something stupid.

    Any ideas?

Are you actually sure you turned on One Shot mode and got the straight arrow and not the loop arrow icon in the sample slot?

Post a screenshot of the problem, making sure to expand the remix deck into advanced mode to expose all the controls (if you can see one shot and punch controls, then you are in advanced mode).

OK, I think I understand why this isn't working, and unfortunately it's the way the "sample" buttons have been set up - even if you change the mode from "Legacy" to "Remix" - the behaviour of the SAMPLES buttons on the S4 Mk1 is the same.

In my screenshot attached, you'll see a 4 beat loop pulled from Deck A into Remix Deck C. The loop was changed to a One Shot by clicking on the Loop Icon in the lowest right corner of the Remix Deck and is shown in the screenshot as a Right Arrow symbol to indicate One Shot Mode - which is the same icon on the sample itself.

Now here is the thing that I used to get it working - press the Deck C button on the S4 to change it to Deck C mode and to give you greater control of the Remix deck. The SAMPLES buttons still work the same undesirable way for what you want. But now the HOTCUE 1-4 buttons will trigger the sample in exactly the way you want - Press it to fire a One Shot of the length of your loop. Then it will stop and be ready for you and the next time you press HOTCUE 1 it will play from the beginning.

The problem with the SAMPLES buttons (at least on my S4 Mk1) was that in OneShot mode, the Remix Slot playback isn't disabled - so you need to press the SAMPLE button twice to trigger it again (once to stop and again to play) - which isn't a great workflow.

So - does this work like you hoped?

EDIT: Just to be sure, in the S4 Preferences, i had HOTCUE BUTTONS set to REMIX MODE when I got this working.

Thanks this is helpful. I'm using the sample to bridge 2 songs, so I need Deck A's cues (if I activate Deck C to take over the remix decks, then I lose the cues in Deck A, let me know if I don't have this correct). I want the sample to loop, because I want to repeat the 16 beats a few times. When I assign Deck A to remix, and drag the loop into the 1st sample cell, it works fine like it supposed to. I have loop and I've unchecked the quantized button (next to BPMs at the top). When I select the trigger button, it goes back to the first beat of the sample, which is great. The problem is getting it to do this in the lower Deck C (I need this because I'm simultaneously mixing in a song on Deck A. I have EXACTLY the same settings (loop, uncheck quant), and it will not start from the beginning when I hit the sample button, even though quant is off. Very odd. Feels like a bug.

Post a screenshot of the Deck C problem so we can see!

Meanwhile, you could use Remix Deck D sampling from Deck A to avoid the issue of the Deck A Hotcues not being available due to being in Deck C mode.

Bump… I have the same issue. Has anyone been able to re-map the sample slot(remix deck) buttons on the S-4 to:
1st push - play from start (the loop playing until I hit stop)
    2nd push - stop
    3rd push- play from start
    4th push - stop….

    …and so on…and so on… etc…
I'm aware of one shot mode, but I would like the loops to continue until I hit the button again.

I've tried but I've had no luck so far.

    Thanks in advance

Set the sample as One Shot mode. Pressing The button the S4 will mute, not stop, but it will not play the sound. My Remix Deck advanced tutorial may be useful.

The default mapping for this on the S4 to stop the sample is SHIFT+SAMPLE, so pressing the relevant SAMPLE button captures the first time (if the slot is empty), then pressing again cycles between PLAY and MUTE. Pressing SHIFT+SAMPLE stops the sample playback and the next press of the SAMPLE button will restart the sample at the start even if previously stopped midway.

This is difficult to map better on the S4, as the only obvious mapping command I can see is the STOP/DELETE/LOAD mapping, which could easily clear your sample if you accidentally pressed your mapped button twice (and is exactly what happens if you press SHIFT+SAMPLE twice). On the F1, the smaller long buttons underneath the sample grid can be selected to act as either MUTE or STOP - but don't clear the slot of pressed twice.
