    REQUEST WARPABLE/FLEXIBLE BEAT GRIDS

To fully compete with the leading digital DJing applications Traktor needs warpable/flexible beatgrids similar to those found in Ableton and Serato Itch. The way to edit grids, and create grids, and the waveform views are much more advanced in these other two applications and is the one competing feature traktor is currently missing. The current gridding system requires you to place a VISUAL marker based on where you hear the down beat. In both Ableton and Itch I can grid a song without ever having to listen to it because of the VISUAL grids and the ability to adjust the grid where needed.

With the addition of the S4 sampler and with Ableton, Serato and the Bridge being the direct competitors to Traktor I would imagine the team at NI’s is aware of this competing feature. Is this something already in development?

Combining this feature with the utility grids request would make a ton of sense!

Also PLEASE DO NOT CLOSE THIS THREAD.

I just did a search for this topic and found responses a year old like this one:

"The topic of 'Warping' 'Flexible Grids' Warp Markers' etc is possibly THE most discussed topic on this forum.
There are 100s of pages on this subject.

Not only has it been discussed it has NIs full attention as it has already been mentioned on the OTR that NI are looking into this form of time-stretching for a future update of Traktor (no time span given)."

and then all the threads have been closed. Well if this THE Most talked about subject on the forum and it's been a YEAR and still highly talked about subject --- then please DO NOT close my thread. Obviosly this has not been addressed yet a a feature request. The topic is still open.

Why after so many threads has this not been addressed other than answers like the one above?

    +1 from me also

It would really help me streamline the process of preparing tracks for use in Traktor,
Especially when 99.9% of my music is converted from vinyl.

    WE GOT A RESPONSE

Sounds like we don't need it?
We just need to learn how to grid and we'll be good in seconds.

Yes, it is part of the answer.

BUT some tracks are changing their tempo while playing, and Traktor only accept 1 BPM for each track. With warpable grids, we would be able to set a (main) tempo, but also to manage several tempos there are into a single track (with several beatmarkers ?).

Justin, check out a free download of Itch and compare. You can use up to 128 beat markers in one track and none of them use up a cue point. There are FAR better gridding applications out there right now that Traktor. So the answer should not be, "the user needs to grid better" when there's already existing better solutions. I hope traktor can adopt an Itch like system. In my opinion it's the only thing that missing.

Definitely the most frustrating lacking feature of Traktor.
For example have a look at how Mixmeister Studio handles flexible beatgrids... Even though it can be improved, it works beautifully.

    TTT

Hope this is being worked on for next years update. Currently have the S4 and it's great, but if Itch releases an S4 type controller at NAMM with Bridge integration, Traktor and S4 will be severly behind with no warpable grids or descriptive waveform.

I too would like something automatic or easy to set up to deal with live drummer tracks. The problem with a lo tech solution or a work around is the fact that all of Traktor's synching functions are based on accurate BPM detection. Also it takes too long to tweak every song that needs it. For example try this and you will understand how traktor works a little better.
Get a sample of several drum beats at different bpm's but within the same track.
The overall bpm will be wrong so you set the grid to the first sample say 100bpm.
You can do a nice loop. Now try to loop one of the other's... no go, so you lay down a second grid for the faster tempo, say 110 bpm you can loop on that but the 100 bpm part will no longer synch up. We need the pro's to come up with a very clever solution or just give up on non electronic music in Traktor and do it manually.

I agree this functionality should be added, but the above poster is not completely correct -- you can deal with these tracks with loops if you save them. When you create the second grid the grid for the first will change, but if you saved the first loop as a cuepoint, it will stay in the same place when you readjust the grid for the second loop. So you can still use the first loop as if it were 100 even though the overall beatgrid is now 110. (This still messes with your effects and stuff if they are tuned to the BPM value, but otherwise it works fine for mixing tracks). You just have to keep track of what is the first bpm; this is a good use for the "Comments" field of the file.

You are right. and I'm gonna set some of these up. Thanks. I fell short on my point. You touched on it. by noting that the effects may be messed up.
My experiment demonstrated to me that the distance between loop markers are dictated by the bpm that Traktor thinks the song is. Other than an exact match
you won't have whole beats. They might be 4.1 or 3.8 etc. If traktor could somehow deal with songs like this, we wouldn't have to be so clever. We need to carefully check our notes so we don't try to drop loops where they won't work.

Ive been using Ableton for the past year to warp all my accapellas and have just given Traktor a go and I can honestly say its super easy and super quick once you've done it a few times. Handy to not have to jump in and out of apps!

    Im very happy with it!
