Hi, I am anything BUT a Tech - head, when it comes to computer systems and requirements. I got into computer - based recording with help from a friend, because I wanted to record my music - not because of my aptitude for working with tech - so please forgive my lack of knowledge up front!

I have a few questions regarding a possible upgrade to Komplete 13, and could use some advice/answers about a couple of things...

    1. Can I upgrade to Komplete 13 from a VERY old version? (I am currently running Komplete 5 on my system.)

    2. I see that N.I. recommends Windows 10 for this upgrade, but I am only running Windows 7 currently (using Reaper). My brother is running Windows 8.1 w/ Komplete 12, and has had no issues (at least not with the components he has chosen to install and use). I am wondering how important upgrading my system to Windows 10 will be, because I likely will not use ALL of the included VSTi's and effects included in the bundle. Wondering if anyone knows which ones will NOT work with Windows 7. (I am debating upgrading to Windows 10 anyway, but have not done so yet, and am wondering if I NEED to before upgrading Komplete.)

Thanks in advance for any insight you can provide!

    Mark

Hi there & welcome to the forums!

Depends on what kind of computer you're using. You noticed Windows 7 & Reaper, that could create a bit of a problem eventually because Microsoft has officially ended support for Windows 7 so it is possible that newer software might run into issues on Windows 7 over time.

... having said that though Komplete 13 has plenty of dated software (thinking about Absynth 5, Kontakt 6, etc.) so.. depending on your specs it might just run smoothly.

Obvious question from your side would be: "How do I check my computer hardware?" ;)

    Well...
    • Press win-r (so windows key + r), in the entry field enter: "sysdm.cpl" (without the "").
    • You should see a window which has a "hardware" tab, click on that.
    • Now click the "Device management" button on top (I'm using a Dutch version so I have to guess what the English name will be).
    • This should open the device manager section that gives you more info about your PC:

... this example if from Windows 10 but it still applies. So... things you should share with us: your processor type, computer type, optionally what audio card you're using. And knowing how much free storage you have available might also help ;)

I think at this time your computer specs are a more important factor to consider than your operating system. However... this can become an issue when using (very) modern instruments or effects because they might have become incompatible with Windows 7 over time. Still, I don't think this is a main issue right now (note that I'm obviously not sure!).

Hope this can help a bit for now.

Thank you for the advice, ShelLuser. Unfortunately, I may be simultaneously dealing with a Malware issue in my Music PC. May be forced to install Windows 10 to root that out. LOL

Is anyone still monitoring this thread? I'm having problems posting my problem, which I believe to be similar. I keep getting some weird error and I cannot find where I can contact an administrator.

Sorta... what problems? New users don't have the full forum features available just yet (to prevent spamming I think) so.. maybe start a new thread and simply explain to us what the issue is? We can always ask for more details if needed.

And if you need to share images or such there's always Imgur.

    To answer Mark's questions.

    1) I use Komplete 13 Ultimate CE (the highest version of Komplete) on Win7 and no problems. I was tricky to install Super 8.
    2) It is possible to upgrade from Komplete 2 to Komplete 13. It costs 200 EUR/USD. If you wait for Summer Sale then half of it, most probably.

Thank you, Kubrak. Now that the malware issue is resolved, i'd like to answer a couple of things SheLuser had asked me to clarify... I have a large amount of free memory in my system (300 GB currently) and data (852 GB currently) drives available, so that shouldn't be an issue, right? The computer is a purpose - built recording computer tower from StudioCat (6 years old), CPU is Intel (R) Core(TM) i7-4790K @ 4 GHZ. BTW - Does the onboard Sound Card even matter, if I am running the audio into a Focusrite Scarlett 18i20 Interface? (Just curious.)

And thanks again, Guys, for your help.

It should be OK, more or less. I have i7-3612QM 2,1 GHz, 16 GB RAM, 1 TB SSD, 850 GB HDD. And it is so, so. But I can work on it.... Your might have double the CPU power.... So, it is better. But generally, it depends what plugins you use. Guitar Rig 6 may be rather demanding, Massive X as well.

I have no problems, concerning W7 and K13. W7 is not oficially supported, but most of the plugins were also in K12, and they were supported on W7. So, they sort of should be even now....

The only problém was instalation of Super 8. Native Access did not offer it for instalation on Win7. I used Win10 computer with NA installed to let it install on W10. One has to "grab" the downloaded instalation file, before NA deletes it. I copied instalation file to W7 computer and installed Super 8. Since then NA shows Super 8 even on W7.

I prefer W7 to W10, but it is not supported, no security patches from Microsoft, probably no support from NI. So far, so good. It should work for you. But no garantie. I have not seen any complaints, it does not run on W7, so I guess, success is probable, but not sure.

Thank you for the detailed info! Since I definitely planned on using Guitar Rig 6, Massive X and Super 8, it sounds like I would be better off upgrading to Windows 10, to make things easier. I might as well, just get it over with! LOL Thanks again. That's exactly the kind of info I needed to help me decide.

Guitar Gig 6 runs on Win7, as well Massive X as well as Super 8. The only thing is that to install Super 8 is not strayforward...

Yeah, that work - around for installing Super 8 sounds tricky to me. And I don't have a 2nd machine with Windows 10 on it to do that trick you described.

I see. Maybe it was like that only on my computer, and on your Super 8 would appear in Native Access. But if you do not mind, it is probably better move on Win 10. Sooner or later one will be forcrd anyway....

I thought, you need Win7 because of other SW used.....
