    Hey Guys,

I am trying to set up using the Samplicity M7 IRs in Kontakt (only for my own use), what has been provided is a mono/stereo (Stereo Wav), Left signal (Stereo Wav) and Right Signal (Stereo Wav). I would like to try and achieve True Stereo (I know nothing can ever be completely True), how would I go about achieving this? As I know the convolution insert will only take one file will I need two inserts one with the Left and one with the right and then control both of their wet sliders with a single slider?

I want to achieve the same effect you would from sending a normal instrument to a True Stereo reverb, with that in mind should the two convolution inserts be in the Instrument Send FX section in which case is it the return knobs that I should then link and control with one slider?

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated

The problem here is that you'll need two busses or two different sends, one for the left and one for the right channel of your instrument, so that you can route each side to a seperate Convolution effect.

If you're making the instrument yourself, you could use dual mono samples and have the left and right channels on seperate groups or sends. But most existing stereo Kontakt instruments won't be set up like this, so you'll need to double the groups... hard pan one set left, and the other right... then bus them to two different stereo busses for the IR inserts.

At least... that's the only way I can think of doing it in Kontakt. It's a bit of wasted polyphony either way ...

Yes that was sadly what I thought, I suppose you could also duplicate the samples in the mapping editor and then use the panning function in there to. I think neither of those are very practical though. If I settled on just doing it as in insert rather then a send would I just have a L and R instance in the Instrument Insert FX section and then just link together the wet faders? That should yield a better result than just using a single instance with the mono/stereo sample, will that then be the exact same effect as having a True Stereo reverb as an insert on a normal instrument track in a DAW?

No you can't do it in the mapping editor, because you can't get those onto different bus. Those will still output on a single stereo channel/bus.
If I had to do it, I would just duplicate all the groups... send the first set to Bus 1 and the second set to Bus 2. Then on the first plug of each Bus I'd put the Stereo Modeller plug in, and hard pan them opposite. Then on Bus 1 I'd insert the left-> stereo, and on Bus 2 I'd insert the right->stereo.

And yes, have one control to adjust both wet levels or whatever.

I don't think the results are worth it, to be honest. I've experimented with true stereo convolution before and it's pretty subtle. I think one of the problems is that convolution by it's very nature is absolutely rubbish at maintaining any kind of stereo image (because, obviously, phase relationships are thrown out). But you should try it and judge for yourself.

Thanks for your help, I will go away and try that all out now!
