    Hi,

Can anyone share some nice simple instructions on how to open Rewire as a VST in Maschine 1.6? My ultimate objective is to use Reason as a Slave via Rewire, but at the minute I can't even get Rewire to open.

Maschine 1.62, latest Rewire, Reason 5, Macbook Pro OSX 10.6.7

I have bought the program, received the license, downloaded the VST, and watched all the youtube videos I can find about the subject.

The maschinetutorials.com video on the matter begins after SaintJohn has opened Maschine with Rewire and Reason as Slave, so it is not instructive.

It's only €19, but I'd like to get my money's worth for the program.

    Any help would be appreciated.

One thing I figured out is that I cannot have Rewire VST open at the same time as another Rewire app on my PC. If, for example, Reaper was open (and enabled as a Rewire host) at the same time Rewire VST, Rewire VST wouldn't work.

The solution was to close Reaper or uncheck the "enable as Rewire host" (or similar preference). After figuring that out, everything worked on the first try ...

you just open it as a vst, like any other vst in maschine

however, you must open it BEFORE you open reason, otherwise Reason will not be in slave mode.

so open maschine, open the plugin in maschine, and then open reason.

Something isn't working for me here...

I open Maschine, then look for Rewire in my Plug-ins but it isn't listed.

RewireVST.vst is installed in the Applications folder of my Mac.

This is where I stumble and fall...Should I move Rewire to a specific folder? I haven't had to do that for any other plugins. They simply load up into the PlugIn options in Maschine.

I'm sure I've done something simple and stupid which is causing the whole thing to fail.

it should be in the same location as your other plugins so that maschine can see it, also you need to go into your preferences and do a rescan so maschine will pick up the rewire vst for you to use it.

On a Mac the VST plugins directory (or at least mine) is HD/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST. Put ReWire VST.vst in there if it isn't already.

Also my first guess for the the "something simple that is causing the whole thing to fail" is that you might be using Maschine in 64-bit mode. The Rewire VST is 32-bit only so you must be opening Maschine in 32-bit mode (right click Maschine app -> get info ->tick the open in 32-bit mode box).

This is how I have it set up and it works for me with Reason 5 just the way saintjoe says it should so hopefully that helps :)

Ladies and Gentlemen, we have Rewire!

Thanks very much guys. I had it in the wrong folder - dropped it into Lib/Audio/Plugins/VST and Maschine picked it up straight away on opening.

    Much appreciated folks.
