Out with the 1D's. A&H should have paid closer attention to their sponsership with Richie.. Like it or not, people follow what Richie does and this will cause be a big shift in NI's favor.

So lets discuss.. Lots of buttons.. But im thinking that its short on some knobs. If you are using an external mixer, the knobs at the top are perfect for effects. But if you want to mix internally, those knobs will be taken up with the eq's. I wonder if there will be an alternative add-on controller..? Even adding one more of these controllers would not fit right. Its like their should be an optional (4) knob bank effects unit to compliment these.

Wait actually.. no faders.. so it's not really meant to be an internal mixer... only to compliment an external. If NI are smart they will release a few modules so you can build what you like.

 

Mine is running great. Motorized jog wheel module, crossfader (looks like you can swap an Inno into it), and infinite rotaries.

Interesting.. Explains why the yet to be announced Xone XD is not linked with Traktor.

 

Well, my nuts are usually quite hot indeed. Karlos I'm surprised they didn't offer you one for being a mod. I got one cause I'm the only person in the world who has Traktor running well (if yoy go by the forum posts).

By the way, did you get that life-sized solid platinum statue of Keely Hazell I had sent to your flat?

 

Unfortunately my girlfriend opened the Keely package and decided to melt her down!

Id be interested to know what people think (from the picture above) what this supposed controller could or should be able to do ?

Well, I was actually trying to make a point... it seems like everyone is making controllers these days, but they all seem to be making the same mistake; they make them with USB-connections only, and some even manage to screw things up in such a way that you can't seem to connect them through a USB-hub (which I wonder about).

I simply hope that NI hasn't made this mistake but instead made the units have normal MIDI-connectors (both In & Through -connectors of course) á la FaderFox.

 

Keely Hazell it is, excellent choice indeed.

oh and the controllers, look to be very solid additional controllers, but the VCI-100 and Akai MDP8 are my additional controllers (love platters)

 

I think so, but I can be wrong.

Seeing that Richie abandoned his Xone 1D's for these units,
one could argue they have the same/ better functionality.

NI would be smart if the unit could also communicate with Machine (or any other NI software)

ASAICS, its another controller, perhaps following the HID protocol to integrate with Traktor.

Question on my mind is: is it a 4D killer? I suspect not.

 

The nice thing about the 4D is the integrated sound card. But, the size and bulkiness is a huge con. The big jog wheels add to that and I haven't really found them useful.

Not being a 4D killer, this might be some serious competition as far as usability.

 

True, if a club would have the new pioneers + mixer installed, and you show up with these..

Perhaps that is all you need..

 

It is difficult to say without actually seeing these but first impressions look like they are quite plasticy to me and the controls are very close together...what I like about the 1D is the solid, professional feel it has. Will reserve judgement though till the official release which I am guessing is BPM?
