there is no perfect midi foot controller on the market (rock solid and easy portable). i suppose RK 2 has this qualities but is not able to control other software than guitar rig.

it would be great if the RK 3 would be able to control not just guitar rig but also software as ableton live via midi.

or: build a midi footcontroller in the style of RK 2 but without inbuild audio interface.

I agree it would be nice to have RK2 function as a MIDI controller for software other than GR2 - maybe NI will make that happen in the future, but for now there are several products on the market that can do what you're asking, and more:

Ground Control Pro from Digital Music Corp:

(I use this one, works great - for a cool video of someone using it with Live, search youtube for "kid beyond ableton live"

    FX1 from Axess:

    Skrydstrup R&D SC1:

    cheers,

    hi brian!

    thanks for the informations!
    i use the yamaha mfc10.
it´s ok and has also an expression pedal.
but it is rather big if you are travelling....
RK 2 would be small and solid and would also have an
    expressionpedal included..

    best

Yeah, all of the alternatives are overkill for my purposes. I have a Behringer FCB1010, and it's just stupidly huge. For the life of me I can't imagine why no one has made available a practical footcontroller that is:

    - reasonably portable (The RK2 is a happy medium here.)
    - bus or battery powered.
    - MIDI compatible.
    - simple and intuitive to program.

There has GOT to be a market for this, and not just for guitarists.

A MIDI RK3 would be nice, but it would be even nicer if NI could deliver the firmware (and deliver on the promise) for the RK2 to do the same.

in a more modest price range someone here uses a yamaha board that looks awsome for 280 usd! it's easy to find on their site I just can't remember the name of the model at the moment. is it possible to trigger multiply things at the same time with midi and GR2?

If, like me, you were looking for something smaller in the way of a MIDI floorboard... I just found a little known unit from Digitech called the Control 8. They are either discontinued or very rare... but 8thstreetmusic.com has them for $119. Not bad.

Not perfect - it does require an AC adaptor, blech. And it will (only) either send Program Changes or CC on/off, both of which are tricky in Ableton Live. I have resorted to running a software translator called Bomes such that both CC on and CC off send the same messages, so that I can toggle effectively. Amazing how complicated this stuff gets...

But its about half the size and 1/4 the weight of an FCB1010, which is valuable IMO.

I find it strange that nobodey mentions the Roland FC200, which you can see here:
    http://www.roland.com/products/en/FC-200/index.html

Clearly the Behringer device is modelled after this (their philosphy not to invient), only with one extra pedal. The Roland has plenty of external inputs for other controllers if you like, is programmable, and can run on batteries; so you have one lead less to worry about. One feature I like a lot is that one foot-button is a momentary switch: with it the effect is on while pressed down, but off when you release. (you can hit distortion on/off in a rhythm for instance, just with tapping). Since Roland is such a large company, I would have believed that this was (among) the most common floor MIDI controllers out there, but it looks like I'm wrong. It's a solid unit, but pretty light; not heavier than RK2, and it has a firm response from the buttons, which doesn't click!
Although I'm not using it right now, I'm not selling mine ;-)

    "can run on batteries"

That's a biggie. I was not aware of this. Would you mind posting the FC200's dimensions?? I may be replacing my floorboard yet again...

2nd thought - never mind. $360 is too rich for my blood, and it looks too big for my purposes anyway.

I currently just play guitar as a hobby with Guitar Rig and do not have RK2. All I really need is an expression pedal. Is there any type of standalone pedal that will work with GR2 that is pretty cheap? If not, I will probably just save for the Behringer, although it is a little overkill for what i'm needing.

    Thanks
