Is it possible to connect Rig Kontrol through a USB hub? I am a keyboardist/guitarist and use a MacBook Pro for many of my synths. They are loaded through MainStage and the computer is connected to a MOTU 828 through USB. The other port is connected to the dongle belonging to Arturia. This effectively eats all my ports.

Now if I want to go and use Guitar Rig I either get a new laptop and put it on that (out of the question), or I need to use the Rig Kontrol through a hub, as the Arturia stuff works through it.

    Can it?

as you already have a decent audio interface i wouldn't bother about getting a rig kontrol, just get the standalone software version and plug in through your motu. if you then want the pedal control get a behringer fcb1010 or similar, it'll cost you less overall and have more control than even the RK3 (even if it is a bit more hassle upfront to configure it)

Could be and I have played around with that idea as I have a Roland/Boss FC-200 lying around, but...

As far as I know there is no way to specify a MIDI channel in Guitar Rig, so if I get myself a MIDI Merger to plug in both MIDI cables then I foresee troubles with GR changing patches when I change patches on the keyboard and change patches on the keyboard when I press one of the FC-200 buttons.

My idea is that using a Rig Kontrol will introduce a second MIDI interface and I can use MIDI/Audio setup in GR 3 to listen only to the Rig Kontrol. No more changing from Clean to Ubermetal when I change a patch in FM8.

Unless I am naive or missing something.

Why would you need a merge, though? Instead of a merge, use a multiport MIDI interface, and just have the port the FC-200's on turned on.

As far as hubs go, if it's a powered hub that puts out the 500 mA per port as required by the USB spec, it could work. A hub that draws its power from the computer's USB port definitely won't work.

I must say I never played around with the possibilities of MIDI much, but I expected the MIDI stream from the FC-200 and the stream from my Roland A-70 to be merged to be put over one USB wire to the computer. I'll google it and see what comes up.

I don't know how much power it gives but the hub I am using on my main computer is a powered one and I was thinking of getting the exact same (a DLink DUB H-7). Of course the power it puts out isn't shown in the specs.

    Thanks so far.
