    Right...

After having dj'ed with vinyl and cds for years and years this saturday will finally see me bring my Macbook Pro and Traktor on the road. Or to the club to be more exact. It's been a while since I was nervous before gigs, but gotta say I'm a bit anxious about this one. Hopefully, my soundcard won't blow up in my face at 1:30 a.m.... Or if it does, I at least hope it decides to go it properly, so the punters get a decent pyro show...

Don't you worry mate. I'll bring a box of records and my cd-folder for backup.

This will probably be me on my way to the gig...

If it helps: last few times I've played, I've ended up having less problems than my vinyl-based peers (records skipping due to bad isolation of the TTs from the bass (mid-mix! oops!), buzzing from a bad ground connection). And just saw A CDJ fail at Cielo last Friday mid-song. Your Traktor setup might very well be more stable! :D

    Have a good gig, buddy!

Thanks Jeff! Think it will be okay.

To put it this way: my Traktor setup would've made FK proud, so it should be stable enough...

The general consensus on here is to have a back-up Cd or record cued up and ready to go in case of emergency.

The only time I had a problem was when I played in a club that had a power surge when a fridge compressor kicked in or out causing my soundcard to die.

Worth getting a surge-protection plugboard for gigs I would say.

Good idea! I'll go spend some money then... ;)

Btw Sean, I seem to remember you saying you got one of those Serato backpacks from UDG? You happy with it? Would you (at some point when you get the time) mind sending me a few pics of what it looks like inside. The crappy UDG site doesn't give you much of an idea and I don't know of any stores I can get one around here.

I'm happy to report that that went down really well. I'm completely sold to Traktor! No problems whatsoever with it today, so the 90 rekkids or so I brough as backup stayed safely in their box for the whole evening. Well, Mandy Smith's "I Just Can't Wait" (Balearic version) stayed on a tt in case of emergency, but that was it... ;) Worked my ass off for the last hour to keep the dancefloor going, and it worked, so a truly excellent night. Now it's probably time for bed... *zzz*

Oh, and I think I managed to keep the errors to a minimum. Stopped the wrong deck once, but that was it.

    Frankie Knuckles or François Kervorkian?

Wow! playing out. Maybe one day.

    Glad it went well!

Not the Serato pack, but I wasn't that thrilled with the UDG producer pack I used for a while (actually the M-Audio-branded one). Mainly, didn't like concentrating all the stuff in one bag. Much more comfortable for me to spread the bulk between a pair of messenger-style bags (specifically: a Timbuk2 Commute bag, and another from Uniqlo that just happened to be sized perfectly for my O2).

Thanks for you thoughts, Jeff, but...

    He,he! ;)

Need to look into my options here. A regular rekkid bag doesn't work to well anyway.

Francois. ;) I believe Knuckles was still spinning vinyl when I last saw him play.

Marius - that creator backpack is excellent - money well spent.

I will sort some photographs asap. It even has a little LED light that switches on when you unzipe the main section - very handy in a darkened booth!
