Im curious if there is any real difference between these two controllers other then (It being Black, 2 more buttons and the 196 MHZ thing) .

Does RK3 have the same Problem as RK 2 with regards to controlling GR3 (Mainly the pedal calibration issue)?

Im at a crossroads here, I love GR3 but as far as control goes its a pain in the ass with RK 2. again the pedal calibration or lack there of. with an external pedal plugged into to a pedal EXT jack it works great but unfortunatly NI has seen fit to not offer any automation for the ext port inputs.

So , does rk3 work better with GR 3 then rk2?... if so id rather just buy RK3 and be done with it, If not and a fix dont come soon im gonna have to look elsewhere ( Line 6 or IK media i rekon)

any input on this would be greatly appreciated

(yes i know there is an update "coming" but i got tracks i need to finish NOW!)

    kind regards

    Jaymo

if you have another midi controller around (like a keyboard controller) that has an exp pedal in you can probably automate that in your sequencer. what program are you recording in?

the calibration is only thrown off when you use the toe switch. for the time being, if you assign your wah on/off to switch 6, your pedal will stay fully calibrated as long as you don't press down on the toe switch.

I dont have anything i can plug a volume pedel in and make work. I shouldnt have to, i have GR with a RK. The calibration have nothing to do with the kick down button under. I dont use the button nomally most for volume.

here what o do and the result...

    select main pedal calibration

move pedal with full motion up and down several times

    click OK

for the first 2 movements it seems to work ok 0 to 100

after that it goes 0 to 90..... 0 to 80..... and then settles round 0 to 70%. (0 being off and 100 being 100% down.

its annoying as with a ZOOM acc volume Pedal i bought for 5 bucks from some bargain bin thing when plugged into the ext in jack works perfectly! ( id be happy with that if GR 3 offered automation for the ext in's but they don't).

so i ask again does the RK 3 have this problem?

Can you contact support? I'm not aware of this issue with either RK, but they'd know for sure.

You know, one of the most frustrating things is to have products that don't work as we hope/as advertised...

But I think I've come to terms with all of that. When something doesn't work with my gear, I shrug and move on to find something that does.

The calibration issue is a pain. but I guess we'll just have to wait until NI fixes it. Personally, I don't need to spend the money on RK3 just for a calibration issue that will be fixed eventually.

I guess all I'm saying is, a bit of patience goes a long way to make things easier to bear!

I own a RK2 and have never had a calibration issue with it.

Are you using GR2 or 3?

Calibration with my Boss EV5 expression pedal was never an issue with neither RK2 or RK3. Certainly, I had to re-calibrate ever so often a while back (using GR2/ RK2) but that was fast anyway, and one of the updates fixed that almost completely. I've always been able to use the full range of expression values / pedal movement. I'd wish for some kind of 'response curve editor' for different pedals however. The built in pedal on RK and my external pedal has very different 'feel' now, for good and bad actually. It would be a good thing to be able to tailor the response so you could emulate the feel you prefer.

I have no problem with my external pedal... tis the pedal on RK 2 im having an issue with... if NI would just add the ext Pedal to the list of supports automations id be happy... but as of right now

the built in expression pedal dosent stay calibrated long enough to do ANYTHING

and there are no automatons to record the external pedals.

so im wondering if getting RK 3 would solve that.

OK so, i got curious and i took off the back plate to my RK 2... thinking maybe the pot was loose or something on the foot controller. I was shocked to find the foot controller is OPTICAL!

yes a little metal tab that floats above and optical sensor as the pedal goes up and down. I hope its optical and a not a field sensor casue if thats the case my rig control living right next to my comp is probably not a good idea

yo NI any comment on this?

Why would optical sensors cause alarm due to computer proximity?

If its a field sensor .... fans, hard dives, power supply would all casue problems...

if its optical then no it wouldnt ... only if it were dirty.

when it comes to things like this i like real analog pots.

hope the update fixes this. when ever it comes.

Ah, thanks for the clarity. I've never seen the sensor issue due to proximity, but I'm sure that it was used over analog for lifespan (at least that would be how I'd do the design).
