    Hey there,

I've been trying to find some help by reading a lot of the RK3 noise related articles but have not found something helpful yet.

I get a "crackling" sound that makes RK3 unusable for both recording sessions and live usage. I have both Guitar Rig 2 and 3 along with RK2 and RK3, so I did some sound comparison / cross checking:

    GR2 + RK2: good
    GR3 + RK2: good
    GR2 + RK3: bad
    GR3 + RK3: bad

So RK3 seems to be the culprit.

    Environment:
Macbook (1,1) 2GHz Intel Core Duo
    2GB 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM
Mac OS X Version 1.4.11 (up to date)
    Sampling: 44100 Hz, 11ms buffers

I have tried to increase and decrease buffers. Anything below 6ms does not work at all and yields the expected results of distorted sound. Increasing the buffers even up to 100ms does not do anything except (of course) delaying the audio signal. Sampling rates of 48k and 88.2k and 96k work exactly as good/bad as the 44.1k setting. Switching on High Quality does improve the sound as expected but does not get rid of the crackling.

I've tried and replaced the USB cable, turned the gain fully counter clockwise, tried both USB ports, removed the instrument cable all to no avail. Both GR2 and GR3 are up to date as long with the NI-USB drivers. The only thing that helps quiet it all down is disabling inputs in the routing tab of preferences.

I attached a recording I did with disabled noise reduction on the "Ultra Gain Lead" preset to amplify the crackling. It is still very much noticable with noise reduction enabled. The strange "frrrrt" like sound in the middle of the recording is what it sounds like, when you use the built in expression pedal.

What do you make of this?

    Cheers,
    Tim

    Not yet,

I wanted to bring this up in the forums first and check if someone has an idea about it. I will do that today and reference this thread.

    Cheers

NI contacted me yesterday that my RK3 seems to be defective and needs to be fixed/replaced.

    Cheers,
