I suppose it’s happened to more than a few Reaktor owners. I want to design and build my own synth. My composition technique is based on melodic lines (counterpoint) and I am fascinated with the prospect of being able to define exactly what happens between notes; i.e. how one note connects to another. I don’t play but realize from midi files so using a number of midi controller channels is not a problem as it would be for live/real time performance. And, I think with SONAR CAL routines I could automatically generate look-ahead data. Can anyone point me to instruments in the library that might be of interest, or have comments on that area of synthesis?

you could learn to propgram midi in hexadecimal and learn about note ons and note offs signal i have this to study at university it is complex but lets you understand what happens inbetween the signals within midi also look at a program called mid ox this will help look into the code of midi.hope this helps

Thanks for the suggestion but actually the issues I wish to address have to do with the parameters and aesthetics of good legato which I do see as related to what happens between notes in the midi stream.

Working with look-ahead allows an envelope for a given note to adapt to the needs of the following note as in C in the diagram where the look-ahead envelope interval between tL and t2 has been modified to accentuate the attack of the second note in a way that still provides good legato.
