Hello you lovely lot. I'm just your regular "bedroom dj". I'm new to the forum, new to traktor, and fairly new to the digital side of things. Before buying the s2 mk3 I was using a timecode set up with an external sound card on virtual DJ. My question is, does anybody know if I can use my timecode setup with traktor pro 3, but use the controller aswell. I'm not bothered about losing the use of the jog wheels for this. I know it's a bit of a backward step, but I'm oldskool, and miss the feel of decks sometimes when playing with the jog wheels. I know I should have went for the s4 essentially, but I thought I would have been overwhelmed with was the s4 was offering. I haven't messed around with anything yet, thought I'd ask on here to see if its even remotely possible first.
    Tia.

That should work no problems for you, I have it set up that way myself.

You'll need the Traktor Timecode vinyl. Your soundcard will need a phono pre amp (virtual dj could work from the quieter line in)

once youre all connected you just need to set the external sound card you used with virtual DJ as the audio device, then set your inputs same as you would have done with virtual DJ.

the s2 will no longer be your audio device, Just a midi controller. So you wont be using the s2 headphone socket for monitoring as it wont be processing any audio.

When it comes to monitoring it'll depend on your soundcard, its going to be helpful if it has a headphone monitor socket. Anyway, here 2 setups that worked for me:

    SETUP 1
    - 2 decks, vextax pmc 07 mixer traktor s2, soundcard, : (EXTERNAL MIXING MODE)

decks to soundcard inputs 1/2 and 3/4 for timecode - outputs 1/2 and 3/4 from soundcard to mixer channels 1 and 2 - mixer output to amp

vestax mixer between the 2 decks and mixer used for gains faders, eqs and monitoring, tractor s2 set up on little shelf and used for cues, fx, browsing, loops etc. - works well, nice old school feel to it with s2 looking after all the traktor stuff.

    SETUP 2
    - 2 decks, traktor s2, soundcard, : (INTERNAL MIXING MODE)

decks to soundcard inputs 1/2 and 3/4 for timecode - Souncard outputs 1/2 for main output (amp) and 3/4 for monitoring

s2 is now between the decks and is used for all functions - looks a bit wierd at first and faders might feel a bit cheap compared to your mixer .... BUT..... the added bonus here is we can now have our effects post fader, the mixer FX arent the best for this but the other FX along the top (especially delay) is good fun for scratching or just sharp echo outs

getting the monitoring set up properly can be a bit of a headache, if your soundcard has headphone monitoring then its a good start, if you can set the soundcard to just monitor output 3/4 then do so, on the s2 turn the monitor dial all the way to PFL, you wilkl now be able to monitor your audio using the PFL buttons on the s2, either on their own or both channels at the same time.

If your souncard doesnt have headphone monitoring then you'll need to run output 3/4 to another audio source with a headphone socket, can be a mixer, crappy little stereo or headphone amp etc

All of the above has been tried with an american audio versaport and a m audio connectiv.both pretty old , neither need huge money to purchase and work with windows 10 .

both of them had a nice low latency and good output.
    Hope that helps
