C'mon guys... if Numark can make their NSF7 have motorized platters, why the heck can't Traktor make their official controllers with motorized platters, too? How much motor is needed to keep a tiny jog wheel the size of an old 45 RPM spinning relative to the tempo of the track being played? Can't be a whole lot, methinks.

Really though, perpetual momentum would be a much desired evolution in the USB DJ controller market. Sure, I could go buy a real set up with time coded vinyl sitting on real moving decks, but I don't have that kind of money, and I don't think most other newbies do either. I don't think it should be too much to ask that future models of Traktor's controllers have motorized platters with a decent amount of (or even adjustable) torque.

I'm sorry if this is seen as spam or advertizing for the competition.
If you interpret it as such, then by all means, remove the video
but -please- allow the thread itself to remain. I'm certain I am
not the only one who'd like to see motorized jogs on the S4.

You could try posting this in one of the Traktor forums

It would seem that going to "Traktor" forum and then "Feature Suggestions" just takes me back here... and I seem unable to post anywhere else, at least, any post I try making does not show up, even when I click my user name and "show all post by this user."

Personally, I'm waiting for a controller type "S1".You take the S4, you remove the mixer and you have 2 deck controllers with the mixer of your choice.

Motorized platters would be a waste, IMHO. Traktor Pro itself isn't designed around TTs - witness the absence of a dedicated "brake" or "'reverse" function (it's an "effect").

The NS7, V7, and NSFX had wonderful motorized platters with real vinyl to manipulate. I love my NS7... but then, if you want a real TT, just buy one. The NS7 costs MORE than simply buying a TT - unless you buy a highend one.

Including a motorized platter makes the controller seriously heavy and expensive. THAT is why motorized platters are no longer a practical feature for controllers.

As for an S1, check out the thread after this one:

If Traktor isn't meant to be used with turntables, then
why do people run it with those time coded discs?
[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fTj-L7EKCL8"]TRAKTOR VS SERATO Comparison By DJ Qbert ! - YouTube[/ame]

And I thought that by running time code, the disc's speed
and direction becomes the "break" or the "reverse." If it's
too hard for them to include motorized platters on the next
incarnation of their hardware, the least that they could do is
make future versions of Traktor more compatible with NS7.

This guy has a work around, but apparently it's a bit buggy.

"Please note that it is in experimental stages and should only be used for testing, it is still not
suitable for a live environment, we need to wait for NI to officially support its moving platters."

So, you do realise that you are comparing effectively the S2 at $499 to the nsfx at $1399?..

Now, if you are suggesting that NI make a premium, ADDITIONAL controller, of substantial build quality and appropriately elevated price, then there may be a market for it....

So, ask yourself, would you pay $1400-$1500 for a new 2 deck controller?
