S4/Audio 10 Setup Question

Hey everyone!

I am a recent convert to TSP from Serato and am loving everything so far. So many possibilities! My setup is pretty complex and I am hoping to get some help.

This is my gear list:

Audio 10 - TSP2
Kontrol S4
2 Kontrol X1s
Maschine
Pioneer DJM 800
2 Technics 1210 MK5s

I need to know what you think the best setup would be. I put it all together tonight with my turntables taking up Channels 3 & 4 (Deck A & B) on the Audio 10. I thought I would just run the s4 to the input on Channel 2, but didn't think that I wouldn't be able to do that because I now am trying to use 2 soundcards.

So, my question is, what would you suggest? I want to still use my Pioneer 800 as my mixer with everything running through it. This is my layout represented with words:

Audio 10
Laptop - Kontrol X1 - Kontrol s4 - Kontrol X1 - Maschine
Turntable - Mixer - Turntable​

By the way, I am really asking if I should be running the S4 THROUGH the Audio 10/etc.

There has got to be a way to do this!

 

First things first: Are you wanting to run the 1210s as only vinyl? If so, then, assuming that the S4 will allow it, all you need to do is to set things up as follows:

1) Set Traktor to use the Audio 10 as the soundcard and set it in external mixing mode

2) Set all the outputs for the 4 decks in Traktor to go through the 4 stereo outs of the Audio 10

3) Hook all 4 output channels from the Audio 10 into the line inputs of the 4 channels on the DJM-800

4) Hook the 2 1210s into the phono inputs in the DJM-800

5) Sell D:RC your X1s (j/k )

That's the way that I would do it, since the S4 and X1 have so much crossover in terms of functionality. If you wanted to use 4 decks (in Traktor) while using timecode vinyl, I think you can do that with a bit of fiddling; and then the S4 is the redundant piece of equipment.

 

I originally wanted this setup:

2 S4 decks A & B
2 1210 decks C & D
2 X1s - effects/loops/other midi functions
1 Maschine (same + control Ableton)
1 Audio 10 Sound Card

My problem (or so I thought) was that I could not use two soundcards. What I think I have come to realize is that I can do this:

Use the Audio 10 as my Sound Card and just treat the s4 as another controller. I can still assign deck to it if I want (or can I?). I may also just use the following setup:

2 1210 decks A & B
2 X1 Decks C & D
2 s4 REALLY expensive midi controller and fun traveling toy
1 Maschine (same + control Ableton)
1 Audio 10 Sound Card

What do you guys/girls think?

By the way, are you the D:RC from San Fran? If so, massive respect, I have seen you play since about 1998 =)

 

Nah, I'm friends with the D:RC from the ATL area, and he's been thinking of of picking up some X1s after using mine a few times.

As for the setup, I'm fairly certain that you can choose to not use the internal mixing portion of the S4 and use on the Audio 10 for Traktor. And if you have the Maschine set up for Ableton, you can route the midi Send from Traktor through the Audio 10 and into the midi in for the Maschine to sync Ableton to Traktor, which is handy at times.

I think that your original desired setup is possible by turning on the inputs for only decks C&D. I'll see if I can make that work on my setup and let you know.

Any help is appreciated. Right now I have settled on using the S4 as a controller. I will be using the X1s for effects etc. going to sync Maschine with Ableton and Traktor as well
