Does anyone use the S4 for weddings? I do mostly weddings and was curious how it performs in this enviroment. Also how is the mic preamp in the S4? Does the mic sound clear & clean? Does the mic knob on the front work well and is the size and location of this knob work good for the mobile DJ?

    Best,

My bread and butter this last few years was weddings, and I've been convinced to do a couple more this year as well. The S4 performs admirably in that situation, and the mic input works just fine. Knob location is OK by me as well.

Never used the S4 at a wedding but I have messed around with cross-genre blending and mixing in similar environments. The S4 rocks in this respect. So easy and flexible. The sample decks are particularly useful in that type of situation. Teasers and one-shots, to loops, etc.

Not sure on the mic question. I'm sure others here have the feedback you're looking for.

If you want a comprehensive, hands-on means of dropping the "Chicken Dance" after "Jive Bunny" (...although I don't know anyone who wants that, LOL) you'll be pleased with the control offered by the S4. Give it a try. You will love it.

What environment is that exactly? What's the big difference with a "normal" gig?

Don't worry son, you don't need to worry. S4 is good at wedding and sort of ''public'' event.

If you even got a case, it will look even more professionnal, because it's in a case, and a case looks pro.

    TeLLy, Thanks

Swanee, Chicken Dance after Jive Bunny lol

Bramble, I think a wedding enviroment is very similar to a normal gig. I say "in this enviroment" because I feel the S4 may be used slightly different by a wedding dj vs a club dj vs a normal gig as far as folder preperation, S4 settings and actual use of the mic. I was looking for an answer from someone who is using it the way I intend to use it who may have a different insight to the S4 and how it works in a wedding setting.

Larry, I use S4 most weekends at weddings. I say most because sometimes I get to something different eg Birthday or occasionally a club gig.

S4 is the most awesome piece of kit in all these environments.

I'll briefly describe my wedding workflow to give you an idea.

    1. Client gives me a music list to work from.
    2. I load all these songs into a playlist for the gig.
    3. I separate out BG from Dance and put those into 2 special play lists that are on my favourites buttons.
    4. I put all the "special" songs (eg Entrance, First Dance etc) in a another play list.
    5. Clean out a special play list I have for requests.

    6. Goto gig and setup.
    7. Select BG play list load the 1st song and hit cruise.
    8. Get bored during dinner while cruise mode plays through the BG music.
    9. Dancing starts. Select Dance playlist and start cutting it up.
    10. Everyone goes home tired and happy.

Oh and I have never had a problem with the mic but then I tend to set the level to suit my voice and leave it there and just use the on/off switch on the mic.

Done a few weddings weddings with the S4 and it works very well.
I use 4 deck mode.I like to get my tracks loaded early, mainly because im forever gettin mithered for requests.
I use a wireless mic...Volume on the back of S4 set to full gain.I always use the front gain to adjust mic levels.

For me S4 is the ultimate DJ gear. I think it can perform as good as you can be. There is no limits with S4. No cdjs and no other gear can offer what the guys from NI did. Great stuff NI thank you big time!

I agree djshawzy. I use my s4 all the time for wedding gigs. nothing is better than 4 deck mode, because you can load up requests on deck d, mix it in with tracks you got going on a,b, and c. its amazing.

Hey thank you all for the insight. I'm convinced I made the right choice. Can't wait to get my s4 this week. I will report my experience with the s4 after some mobile events.

    Cheers

You could even try doing a mashup of the 2. You could call it chicken bunny. :D

Maybe a noob question, but what does "BG" mean? Background? Like when people are eating, you play something in the background? Total guess, but it is the only explanation I could find.:)

Yeah I also use the S4 for weddings being a mobile DJ
Possibly the best decision I have made, however, because some places i'm using their gear, i cant access their mixer so therefore I have to output the sound through my laptop which is then plugged in to a permanent output on the front of the mixer (not very often). I loose headphone output of sound, but it's great for easily controlling Traktor.

I don't mean to sound arrogant or obnoxious, but you lost me on this complely. Let me reword your post in a couple of questions and maybe you'll see why it doesn't make sense to me.

You output the sound through the laptop into a permanent output on the front of the mixer? The mixer you said you can't get access to?

As far as I know (being a noob) there shouldn't be any reason at all to use the laptop sound output as the S4 has a sound card itself and it is a much better one than most laptops have.

correct about the sound card, but because the S4 only has RCA outputs, I only sometimes have access to a 3.5' port, which my laptop plugs into (headphone port on the laptop) and outputs the sound to the laptop.

I dont have access to the back of the mixer sometimes, therefore restricting the use the RCA output on the S4

    That's it exactly.

Why don't you get yourself an RCA to 3.5mm adapter cable? Then you get the best of both worlds. You should be able to find one in any consumer electronics store.
