I am looking to stream a live DJ set via OBS, although I am open to other suggestions! It is recommended that you run OBS on a separate Mac to the one running Traktor which means audio out from the Kontrol surface. Does anyone have any recommended best practice/equipment set up to achieve this, specifically getting audio from the S5 panel into the second Macbook Pro via USB C.

OBS is the way to go for sure. Open source and free and has a lot of support for 3rd party streaming tools like StreamLabs, VST support to tune your audio, etc. As far as my setup goes, I have my main DJ MacBook with Tracktor running hooked up to my S8 (the S5 and S8 have the same Main and Booth outputs in the back of the controller). I have my booth outputs going directly to my studio monitors to hear the mix (of course using headphones for mixing and cueing). Then I have another set of cable coming out of the S8's Main output and going into my Audio 6 interface as an input which is hooked up to my iMac (i7 CPU, 32GB Ram) where I run OBS. In OBS I create a new Audio Source pointing to the Audio 6 Inputs. From there you can apply filters, mods, etc. to tune the sound going into your stream. I did have it all running on one machine which is easier, but as soon as you start adding multiple cameras and other 3rd party it can soon tax the DJ laptop and just helps balance the load. I use the Audio 6 to catch the output coming from the S8 but there are plenty of other audio interfaces you could use - I had that device here so I used it. DJ Tech Tools just refreshed their guide on how to stream your DJ sets to a variety of platforms - check it out here

I am trying to do the same (with S5 too) but preferably all on one laptop but can't seem to get it to work. Ideally I would like to use the booth output for the stream so I can control the volume better and my main output is running xlr cables to my pa.
I have an additional Audio 10 and Audio 2 DJ but haven't had any luck.
Do you need to run the audio back into the laptop via the mic input? Any help would be great

Run the audio back into the laptop by using either the Audio 10 or Audio 2 and run a cable from your S5 booth to an input on the Audio 10/2. Then select the Audio 10 or 2 as the input device source in OBS. It is recommended that you use a 2nd computer for this though to reduce load and audio glitches.

Although a single laptop is technically doable there are few reason to have two machines. First if you are using Traktor during your set, you are going to be in Traktor navigating your set, library, etc. and likely won't have the screen real estate to do that and monitor your stream, the chat, etc. on the same screen. Then there are the potential system performance issues once you start using multiple web cams, stream plugins, etc. - the system will get taxed. That said the single computer approach can be done if you don't care about all that. On the single laptop approach I don't remember off the top of my head, but I recall doing something with creating a virtual audio device (similar to how a gamer would want to pipe a specific application audio stream into OBS). I am on OSX and use a tool called Loopback from Rogue Amoeba which lets you create virtual audio devices from multiple sources including desktop app i.e. Traktor in this case. Otherwise you are using an additional audio device as Cheer Roberts suggests above

Thanks everyone, got it working by running the audio from the A10 back in (which I had tried but must of had something wrong). Will look at running OBS from another machine also.
    Cheers

Hi, Did you end up running from the Booth on your S5? I have bought a second hand Audio 8 and struggling a little with which inputs / outputs to use, any help would be appreciated. Many Thanks Neil

I just had a look and I'm running out of the Booth outputs on the S5 into the Main In's on my A10 using TRS to RCA leads.
