S5 Power Adapter

Hi all! Just got an S5 and cant wait to get my hands on it.

I bought it without the power adapter and got a 15V 96W 4.5Amp adapter.

Is the tip of the jack positive at the original S5 adapter?

Has anybody used S5 with a different adapter?

Not me, but once talked to a guy who also bought a second hand S5, and he had sent the S5 with a non original power adapter, and after plugging it, it would eventually stop working.
You have to check the Voltage, Intensity and Power the adapter deluvers, appart from the jack.
I would highly recommend buying the original one/at least one which matches the lriginal one specs (can’t recall which ones they are, but I think it’s 25W / 40W, anyway, way less than this adapter you have. You can search yourself what happens to electronic devices which are “overpowered”)

 

• Input: 100 - 240V AC, 60/50Hz
• Output: 15V DC, 2660mA

Since the voltage of your power adapter matches the requirement, IN THEORY, you should be able to use your power adapter since it will provide 15V and 2,66A (“it won’t provide the other amperes”, only the ones the S5 requires).
But don’t trust me on this, I don’t want to be blamed if something would happen to your brand new S5!

And by the way, I recommend you to check my mod for the S5!

I understand that you own a S5, could you confirm if the jack of the power adapter is center positive?

Hi Aleix! This is about the polarity of the adapter jack. I got the response from NI Support. S5 adapter is positive on the center (or tip) and negative on the sleeve. Thanks!
