S8 compatibility with late model Macbooks

The S4 Mk2 had major issue when it was it came out and looking at the S4 thread it seems to continue. What I want to know is will the S8 be compatibility with the late model MacBooks with Retina as well as older models?

NI did not really come clean with the S4 issues hence this is holding me back on a ordering an S8.

Would be great to hear from the moderators here on what was done differently on the S8 to avoid the freeze issues that are on the S4MK2?

 

i am curious too specs say Mac OS X 10.8 or 10.9 (latest update), Intel® Core™ i5, 4 GB RAM will it not work on older computers

There's no reason why it won't, it'll essentially have the same USB chipset as the Z2/S2/S4 and so it is firmware updatable and works with all MacBooks including the ones with new USB3 Intel chipsets.

i currently dont have an i5 so should i not get the s8

 

I doubt that NI will put anything into the 2.7.0 update that will check CPU ... It will have a check for 10.8 or 10.9 though.

If 2.6.8 works for you now without issues then there should be no technical reason that the S8 and 2.7.0 update won't work equally as well.

Years ago I ran Traktor Scratch on an old G4 PowerBook when the spec clearly stated Intel CPU, I needed to turn off a few things like Spotlight but it ran fine although on paper it was horribly under minimum spec.

 

I guess the way i look at it…Traktors last release the S4Mk2 was done prematurely and caused major problems for initial buyers. It was obviously not properly tested.

This is why i have some concern about buying this unit. looks great but if does not work or freezes up in a live performance like the S4 Mk2 did it will be a waste of a lot of good money. I was hoping the NI forum guys with more info would provide some positive feedback.

 

I have the same doubts, I have the last MBP Retina and still suffering some annoying audio dropout, not frequently as before but still.
I'm wondering if the S8 will have the same problem. Another thing but this is out of topic, the S8 is too big, can't stay in a trolley and this is bad for a DJ who has to fly often and wants to keep his things in a hand luggage.

 

This is the main reason I am not buying one because they haven't fixed a year long problem on the late intel haswell 2013 audio dropout issue from before.

Once they fix that issue I will purchase another NI product. But right now I am on the fence and ready to switch to a different brand of controller soon

 

Yeah sure, just remember there's no perfect machines, you would risk to fall from the frying pan into the fire.

 

That is pretty sad that the S4 issue with late model mac books were not resolved. That is my question about the S8?

Was this issue addressed with the S8?

Will the S4 work with the latest model Macbook Pros?

I got burned pre ordering with the S4MK2 which ended not working on my macbook pro. NI blamed the Haswell processor and i returned the deck.

Forum admins care to provide some feedback here?

I would love to buy the S8 but want to avoid the bad experience many have had when the S4MK2 was released.

 

Can't everyone do what I am doing and ordering one to test? Here in the UK I have 14 days to return an item if I don't want it. Thats more than enough time for me to test it, and if by some chance it has to go back I should be just in time for the DDJ-SX2 release

 

The way i see it its not my responsibility to test NI hard to insure it works with late model MacBooks. NI failed to do this when they released they released the S4MK2. See the hundreds of complaints about freezes in the S4 Forum.

 

Not the only problem NI failed to solve......
