Just installed and booted up the s8 today. The controller and sound card work fine. When booting up the screens look crisp and fine and when I go to the options screen that changes the colors and brightness everything looks good. While using the s8 though the browser shows broken info in the form of accented letters. The waveform will load on some tracks and follow but will glitch and become dragged lines. Currently analyzing my music library to see if that changes anything when I reboot. Anyone else experience anything like this.

Connected to laptop that has never had traktor installed and everything works fine. Wondering what old traktor info is causing problem on main laptop. Tried reinstalling traktor and drivers multiple times.

I have the same issue but no clue yet how to fix it. On my prior setup with Audio 8 I had no Issue and my laptop worked like a charm. I've already updated latest S8 Firmware and reinstalled Traktor and Drivers. Besides the display glitches the tracks are loaded into the s8. You can hear them on the individual channels even with assigned effects.

    The screen looks like this:

Yep that's how mine looks too. Thanks for uploading pictures it wouldn't let me for some reason. The next step I will try is to completely delete my entire traktor directory and all related files. I'm assuming since it works fine on my secondary laptop that has never had any traktor installed that will be the fix. Hoping I can save some of the info and bring it back though. Already a frustrating situation and not looking forward to potentially losing a bunch of stuff. My previous version of traktor was 2.68 with the s4 mk2.

I've also had screen problems (yellow line that wouldn't disappear - NI fixed it). It's cases like this that make me want to sell this controller before another defect occurs after the warranty period!

Having the exact same problems as theturrican. That is my screen exactly, all kinds of weird symbols, no track text or waveforms despite tracks being able to load/play. Tried an uninstall/reinstall of most software. Now to completely rip everything off as well as I can and try again.

Have had no other problems and my A10 works fine. May be returning this.

Complete uninstall including removal of folders/many registry entries resulted in traktor crashing whenever S8 is plugged in at setup.
Will be attempting install on another laptop that has not had traktor on it before. Stay tuned. Get to work on this NI :p

This fix worked for me, it made complete sense when I read it. i5 intel integrated graphics don't play well with the s8 b/c it has a display output component to it. I followed these steps to a T and it fixed it. I also ended up reinstalling from scratch but I have a hunch that isn't even necessary. Try this out, it should work. And this fix definitely needs stickied. The other laptop (i7) worked fine right off the bat. These are just driver issues really.

    1) update your drivers... its just a good idea (although maybe not necessary)
    2) get into your graphics control panel (not the intel one if you have it) for me its as easy as right clicking on the desktop (windows), going to Nvidia control panel (or catalyst control panel for AMD users)
    3) go to "manage 3D settings" (not sure where this is on an AMD)
    4) On the global settings tab Select "High-Performance NVIDIA Processor"
    5) Go to Program Settings Tab
    6) Under "Select a Program To Customize" click add
    7) Go to your Traktor.exe file (either search or if you use the default instal it will be in Program Files/Native Instruments/Traktor 2/ )
    8) Click Open
    9) Select High-Performance NVIDIA Processor in the dropdown

Voilla! You should not crash anymore.

The Only drawback is traktor will now use battery MUCH faster. Although I firmly believe you should never operate under battery alone, so for me at least it is a non issue.

    I hope this helps!
    Cheers!

Yeah I am also having this problem with my laptop. It's a toshiba satelite with an i7 in it, and it worked perfectly fine for 2 days. Then BAM! Screens were glitching all over the place. Worked perfectly after with a homies MacBook Pro. I really wish someone from NI would read this and help out. It's really not fun playing with my new s8 and not being able to use the screens..

You will most likely need to return it to NI to fix I am afraid.

A couple of weeks ago I bought an S8-controller to control Traktor Pro 2.9. The problem is that I don't get a correct tempo indication when I press display button 1 on deck A; if I change the tempo nothing happens on the display but the tempo indication on Traktor and the track tempo changes accordingly. On deck B everything works fine. So as I see it the problem is limited to the tempo indication on deck A. I use a Sony Vaio laptop with Intel Core i7, 8 GB RAM and Windows 7 professional with service pack 1. Any input would be appreciated.

This sounds like a hardware defect more than a software glitch. I'd either return it for a new unit, if possible...or call NI and submit a ticket. Before that though you could test it out on another computer that's never had traktor installed. The only way I found to fix my screen issue was a complete reinstall of windows. I believe it's a registry issue with previously installed versions of traktor. I messed around with it for about a month trying to figure it out, when luckily my computer started to act real funky. Reinstall of windows and it's been smooth sailing since then. That was about a month ago.

For theturrican: I have similar displays than yours(on your pictures) on my Traktor Kontrol S8 until i solved the problem by installed the new driver for the video card Intel HD on my Dell Intel i5 laptop. Now i'm happy. The 2 displays of my Traktor Kontrol S8 controler worked very fine !

Hi all, I had the funky symbols screen problem there and followed all the very helpful advice on this thread but to no avail , I did a full system restore etc but each time those funky symbols where there , My dedicated graphics card doesn't allow me to do the 3d thing so was stuck thinking I'm going to need to get another bloody laptop now ! but I stumbled on a fix that has worked for me WOOHOOO hopefully it may for you .. Go into documents / Ni folder / Traktor and see if you have your collection AND i think it was backup collection or something of similar name. delete the backup collection and restart traktor :0)~~ your problem should be solved , no need to re analyze your tracks etc . if the problem happens again repeat this procedure , i've only had to do it twice and fingers crossed everything has been running ok screen wise ... pops n clicks and freezes aside lol still finding it hard to trust the s8 playing out , hope NI sort this out with the next update

Seen lots of people with this problem including me on my new S5. Think its NI's crap untested software.
Wouldn't bother opening a support ticket, the last 3 times I have they've told me to get a better laptop. (its an i7 with 8gb ram, win10, its fine)

    Hello,

I have the same problem, I don't think it's a hardware problem because sometimes it works very well and sometimes it freezes on a constant value. In that case, there's nothing to do excepted to close then relaunch Traktor.

It's a pity, I hope NI will fix that as soon as possible, before adding new features (like displaying the entire titles in the browser, or the ability to customize the browser's infos : for example, showing the time of a song).

When I bought the controller, I had big problems, but this was because of my i3 and 1gb of RAM, so NI answered me to buy another laptop, but they were right. Now I have an i7 with 8gb and win10 and it's almost perfect. Indeed, I had some cracks in the sound when changing an FX (so it was impossible to use the FXs in live performance), BUT the trick of Dichromatic (about Nvdia performance of Traktor) seems to have solved the problem : no crackle anymore since I changed the setting for Traktor. Another thing : I had only one crash with Traktor & S8, when editing a BPM while playing, and I'm pretty sure that it won't happen again thank to the Nvdia setting.

I think there's a lot of problems coming from graphical reasons. For example, I installed Traktor on an old desktop computer (but with better performances than the laptop) and the S8 mapping in the controller manager missed! When I wanted to install it from the dropdown menu, it told me that it was impossible because of an OpenGL problem. So I updated the driver of my graphical card which installed Catalyst too, and I was able to install the S8 mapping. HOWEVER, this computer doesn't detect the S8 at all (it did four months ago when I had win7 instead of this current 8.1). I think it's a graphical problem...

Another thing. After installing Adobe Premiere (which installed a newer version of Visual C++ 2013), the S8 showed always the black screens, as if it was not connected via USB. The Control Panel, Windows and Traktor recognized the controller very well, but the black screen remained, so it was impossible to use it... I re-installed the driver and everything worked fine.

Anyway, I suggest to all of the S8 users to do the trick that Dichromatic reposted. Maybe NI should write this tip somewhere...

My overall opinion is that it's a very good product, even if there are some bugs. It's quite perfect for some kind of live performances.

    Bye.

    Hello Tractor S8 Owners
Tonight both my screen went pitch blank!
on my S8 for the first time ever. but I still had audio...
Here's what happened in a nut shell, but want to point out that a ticket has be made already...

I have owned my S8 traktor now for abt. 2 years, Had some issues with traktor in the past, but updated my laptop from dual Core to a Quad core with 16gb of Ram and have not look back since..
    now I have a new issue ;(
The issues is that, when I power on the S8 controller up, then boot to window's 10, the controller lights up, in a flash, as per normal when powering up....Once booted to the desk top, then I click on the traktor scratch software, and it pop's up the software on me PC screen as i have the DJ laptop on an Ext 21 inch monitor, all is good, and see both screen on then S8 Just fine.with the red tractor screen splash logo...
    now... o_O
I go to load in my guest DJ mix in to say deck "B", after analyzing the tracks/Mix.
181.5: Key: A, time: 59.02 bla bla bla...
go to Drop the tracks in to the prep window, and as soon as I drop the track/mix in to deck "A"
the S8 screen "Shuts of Totally "blank?"
I also tried the same thing, to deck B with the same out come

    no screens s8.jpg

    Tried the following:
updated java, updated flash player, looked for an Ni updates, looked for any windows 10 updates= none.
OK, back to the S8 controller...
Power off both Laptop and s8 controller, power both back on, run the scratch software, load up a Random Track into deck "B", both screens goes
"blank" as in DARK nothing, Zro, Nadda "Die s8 Bildschirme sind total leer"

    * Just so, this is clear, as you can see Lots of USB powered Hubs in the background However they are not attached to the DJ laptop in Question, Both USB hubs are on the 2nd "BUTT" laptop.

    Anyrate...
I also have unplugged the power to the controller, turned on the power to drain any remaining power with-in the S8 unit, de-pressed the power button switch and re-inserted power, then proceed with the "Let see what happens now" and...
    Out come is the same:
Both screens go completely "Blank" as in DARK, Nothing, Zero,
Nadda "Die s8 Bildschirme Sind Total leer" ?

Last week, all was well, and been well for 2 years pry..

Whats going on here? was ist denn hier los?
    :confused::(:confused::(:confused::(:confused::(:confused::(:confused::(:confused::(:confused:

    Tech info:
Laptop: Dell Quad core i5, Storage: 16gb Ram, 500gb ssd + 128gb HDD (internal) drive.
O/s: Win 10 (all updates are current at this time of post)
Shielded USB A to B Cable for S8. Controller.
connected to 21 inch VIZIO monitor Via the HDMi output.
Audio out to compressor, from Compressor, audio out TO, Audio aux in on 2nd "BUTT Laptop" that streams out to the Globe.

The s8 is at a tilt as I have made a wooden prop/stand and also have a mini Fan blowing under the S8 to help with Air ventilation and keep any heat issues at bay...

Thanks for any input at this time.
