Good point! I guess I wanted the studio because of the screens! However, the mk2 has screens and is smaller. I also saw DJ David Morales use the mk2 as a controller on mixmag lab sessions with a pioneer 900 nexus! I like maschine because you can sample from any source and quantize or time stretch that loop! Since I have a large library of music, old disco and funk tunes that float I would now be able to "treat" them and use them in production or live performance! Thanks!

    I have a S8 and a Maschine MK2.
Maybe you run into Problems with S8 & Maschine Studio because of the Displays. They are driven from your Graphics Card.
Maybe you should try before you buy.

Maschine MK2 Display ist "only" monocrome LCD, driven by the hardware itself.

Even there are a few great mappings for Maschine MK2 (Maschine ONE @ MAppinggenius) so you can switch over in your Perfomance between Traktor Controller & Maschine Software.

For me, it works with S8 and Maschine, but i use a 2nd Asio Audio Interface for Maschine, which i route into Channel 4 of the S8.
Wasnt able to get it up and running only with the s8, talking in the Microphone, record it in maschine and play it looped with traktor effects.
With 2 Soundcards this works for me.

Wow! Thanks for the advice! I wonder if Maschine studio or mk2 would work better with the Z2? What do you think?

I use maschine with S5 and S5 as a sound card on a mac. you can route sound cards in mac using soundflower. it works great and you can map it to a deck or to the master out put so you basically have 4 decks + the maschine mixed. sync beat with internal Midi so and you can make traktor or maschine as master clock as you want .

Using maschine studio. Sync clock with virtual midi from maschine to traktor.

Thanks so much! This answers most of my questions! What computer do you use? I've heard nightmare stories about traktor software but lately the tiny glitches I was having seemed to have gone away. Not really sure why but the system seems to be very stable now! I say this because someone warned me not to get the Maschine studio because the screens may interfere with the s8's screens. Is this true?

I use mbp retina. The traktor s5 screens and maschine screen behave differently. For traktor, the traktor pro software need to be opened in the active screen so the screens on controller to function. Even if the maschine software cover the traktor software it is ok. If you move a way or minimize traktor software the screen for the controller will freez and stop responding. This is regardless of using maschine or not.

When you sync traktor to maschine, are the BPM exactly the same? I tend to get "120.00" on traktor and "119.99" on maschine. Maybe it's just a rounding/display setting, but you would expect them both to read "120.00"

I sometimes have irregular results with the internal midi clock sync function. At times I wonder when NI will just connect the two apps formally. Link, with Ableton, is super smooth - but only for iOS.

I set maschine as master and sync maschine to traktor and not traktor to maschine. This allow me to use the tuch strips to correct beat match in case of a problem. Also start the play a little before the performance giving the clocks time to sync, and use both metro to correct with drift correction.

Thanks everyone with the sound advice! Using Maschine as the master and syncing traktor to it seems right! When I use sync on the s8 sometimes I will have to make slight adjustments to the other track. This is with perfect beat grids, however, sometimes tracks will still be slightly out so you have to manually adjust the two or three tracks. I also have in the prefrences set to "flexible sync" (I forgot the name of it) as apposed to beat sync which locks the two tracks and will not allow you to bend the pitch/tempo! Thanks again!

And THIS sux donkeyd..k! Why the f... can't this be fixed? And NI's solution is pure bullsh...
    https://support.native-instruments....gest=cab2da8c0d3a04660afbe8aa35fc6fa20f2ff987

    Thanks NI, Thanks Apple.
btw: this was not fixed with macOS Sierra.

But we have to mention that Traktor got really good (had no glitch or dropouts or anything similar since the release of the S8), and with the upcoming 2.11 release it just got better.

Now we just need Ableton Link on Maschine.

That's because it's not a bug, it's a feature that was introduced by Apple a couple of years ago to save battery life and resources.
Although I agree you should be able to disable it, or it should just disable automatically when you're plugged in.

Traktor is the one rendering the S8/S5/D2 screens, the controllers themselves are just dumb boxes that send everything to Traktor. The only fix is for NI to actually build decent hardware that can render the screens themselves, like Denon and Pioneer do. But instead they went the cheap route.

Yes please. A simple script/or whatever to deactivate this bugging "feature" would calm me the f... down.

And THATS the reason I am getting really angry. Why the **** nobody at NI did anything? Or said: "just ask apple, we don't know". Noooooooo, they just say "don't use spaces". WTF????
And why I have to read this from a fellow customer? Does nobody at NI have the Balls to talk straight to us customers?
    Shame.

Because the Kontrol S8 was already well in development when Apple introduced that feature, it would have cost NI a lot of money to start over for such a small issue. Besides, the whole point of these controllers is that you don't have to touch your laptop anymore, so don't.

Because it's not very customer friendly to say "we don't know, go away". You have to be able to help customers with any issues they have, even if the issue is not your fault. That support page clearly explains that the issue is with OS X and how to prevent it, there is no other solution as the controllers were already designed this way.

When you work with another company you usually don't want to be on their bad side, especially with Apple.

I would not touch my Laptop, if this promised feature would work. But guess what, it doesn't. So, this is contrary to what NI sells me, isn't it?

Indeed, but I would know that I don't have to keep my hopes up, and do my own workaround.
With no answer at all, I am disappointed.

Sure, but I often reported and asked here on this forum, no answers.
I am testing the Traktor Beta and was going to report this issue, and NI referred to the KB, then I found this unsatisfying answer, and I am back as a angry troll. You get me, right?

Agree, but this is not a minor bug, it is one of these so called unique selling point. It does not work, I am boned.

The screen freezing issue is one that I've reported in the beta testing, although yes I know it's been around for quite a few versions of Traktor. They have put it into their system as an "official bug" that needs to be sorted.

The other work around that they don't mention is to not use "full screen" within Traktor, instead click on the green dot while holding down Option, and this will maximise Traktor on your screen, and not opening it in its own "space" (which is what "full screen apps" actually do). You can the "command/tab" between Traktor and Maschine as much as you like without the screens stopping.

The reason I gave them for this being an issue is that I use an 11" MacBook Air and so I need all of the vertical resolution I can get for Traktor, and when you use this "maximise" it leaves the Apple Bar across the top of the screen, as well as the Application Bar with the traffic light dots and app name. Using 4 decks, I can't lose that space!

Anyhow, changing Traktor to use the "full screen app" feature is something that NI decided to change as when I use Traktor 2.6.8 on Sierra it opens in the Desktop Space, but uses the whole full screen. All they need to do is let us choose which full screen mode to use, what I call "classic full screen" like in 2.6.8, or "full screen app" where Traktor opens in its own space.
