S8 won't turn on for around 45 mins?

    Hi
I've had my S8 a few months now. Initially the unit was working fine. Recently however the unit failed to turn on, I thought it was a complete failure but after around 5-10 minutes the unit switched on.

After my set, I checked the power supply and could hear it making a sort of 'fizzing' noise even after it was unplugged, so I assumed that the issue was with the power supply. So I bought a new one, however the same behaviour is now taking place with both power supplies.

The issue is getting much worse and last night at my set the unit didn't switch on for around 45 mins after plugging it in.

I was hoping to get some advice about if anyone has had similar issues with his or other controllers, and whether this is an issue iwth the S8, or with the power supplies.

At all times I've used the power supplies in UK standard electrical plugs, and other items (macbook etc) plugged into the same socket have worked fine.

Any help much appreciated, Native Instruments support is as per usual completely useless and their only solution is to send it back to Germany, In the meantime I'd lose a months wages waiting for them to fix it. They don't really seem to be able to grasp the concept that they sell DJ controllers, and as such they are used by DJ's who need their controllers to make a living;)

    Thanks
    John

    Hi

I bought a KONTROL S8 nine days ago and have already had this problem twice. I connect everything, press the power button on rear and nothing happens. After circa 30 mins and multiple attempts it eventually turns on. I fear one day it will not turn on ! I reported this to the retailer yesterday but they refuse to accept there is a fault. I have to take it back today for testing and I just hope the fault reoccurs as I now have no faith in the product quality. The retailer tells me that even if the fault does reoccur during their test, I am not entitled to a refund so looks like I may have a battle on my hands.

    Thanks
    Richard

Yep this is exactly hte same problem Richard. The problem will get worse, you'll have to send it back to NI. Its been back with them since last week and it isn't fixed as yet.

To be fair if you've only had it 9 days you'll definately be entitled to a refund - its been sold to you in a faulty state.

I have to say having used 3 S8's now my overall feeling is that its unreliable and not really ready to be on general sale. I've just got the most recent one which is working fine (at the moment) but the others both had faults. Furthermore (as can be seen here) Native Instruments themselves aren't good on the tech support side - I had to make repeated calls and submit endless emails to them before I finally got a return ticket.

S8 looks great and in principle its a good bit of kit, but a bit like Traktor the reality is its totally unreliable and I don't trust it on stage. There really couldn't be a worse advert for it than that!

My S8 wont power up. Replaced the power adapter, it worked for about 2 shows, then died again. Was left stranded at a gig having to scramble. Very unreliable. And now will have to bring a backup denon system incase of failure!

Seriously guys you need to return that faulty equipment and get a full refund from NI or your where every you bought this from and invest in a company that is more reliable and offer better support. Bad hardware & bad software issues reported all over this forum.

It really a sad to see this from a company that i used think was so great. When the S8 came out i was kinda interested but NI was already going down hill. I am glad i did not waste money on this.

Pioneer DDJSX2 is a solid controller works with Traktor/Serato/RekordboxDJ that I would recommend. Quality build and also gives you the option to use other software in parallel with traktor. Does not have stems but i will take stability over features like stems any day.

waiting to hear from NI and see what they are going to do.... I was looking at DDjsx2 but coming off novation Twitch i really don't use the jog wheels so i thought it was a waste to have them.... I also like the remix decks it is a nice feature to add clips from and loops from other songs into your mix... I hope NI comes up with a fix... BTW don't know if the other users are having this issue but one of my decks (D) sometimes the effects button doesn't work and sometimes it does....

Trust me.. on this.. don't wait in NI. Make your move or your will be waiting far to long. NI is very very slow to even acknowledge issues and even slower to resolve it. Read through the forum...example of this are every where.

Has anyone that experienced this issue found a resolution? I'm still getting the runaround from NI Support. They told me it was an issue with power supply which isn't covered under warranty. They gave me an invoice to buy a new power supply which did not resolve the issue. I have tried to reach out to them for further assistance but they still have not helped. Anybody have suggestions?

Return that thing to where ever you bought it from reference the many others having the same issue and get your money back. Looks like support at NI is still bad.

Exact same situation here -- I had an extended warranty and everything, one day I moved my S8 from one desk to another after years of babying it and it just didn't turn back on. Replaced the power supply, no luck.

Tried to take it back to the Sam Ash where I bought it + the extended warranty and was told that NI has told retailers to stop honoring extended warranties, but that they could still 'send it in for me'. That does me no good with shows I have to cancel and money I have to now spend to replace gear that randomly quit for seemingly no reason.

The bottom line is this: I can't buy a new S8, even though I love all of the features... when it can't be trusted with confidence. I really want to buy a second one, but I can't in good conscience if an update doesn't come out soon.

Could not have said it better, really. Suppose I'll be saving for the new XDJ or DDJ system.

Same here. Dead unit. No response. Sad to say this, but buyers BEWARE and consider buying something else.

    Same issue here.

I have been doing weddings with my S8. And the only way I could get it to turn on was to slam it on the table! This worked for a year or so. I still can't believe it. I set it up at home and went to record a mix and haven't been able to turn it on for several days now. Its a bummer because I really want to record this mix!

I had a similar problem! two months I corresponded with those support. I was very tired - it is a waste of time. SOLUTION - I disassembled the controller case myself, I moved the cables and it all worked!

I'd guess this is a micro fracture on the board, or a loose connection, both of which improve once the unit has warmed up.
If your unit is not in warranty, and isn't switching on, there's nothing to lose in opening it up and taking a look. or you could take it to an electrical repair shop that could probably diagnose it for fairly cheap.

Just had the same issue with my S8.
Removing the back cover is a simple process (please consider any warranty at this point)
Wiggled the pcb connectors on the board where the DC power comes in and she has come back to life.
For reassurance I added some hot melt glue.
I hope anyone reading this gets as lucky as I did o_O

Hi friends, my S8 did not turn on for two days, I opened the back cover and checked all the connectors, everything was in order, all the connectors were tightly connected. Just in case, I pushed all the connectors, but this did not work, then a day later I tried to turn on S8 and lo and behold, it turned on.
May be any happened with the power adapter? Maybe the protection mechanism worked in it?
