    Hmmm, I see it like this...

    Lets say row 0 is a sample of one cycle some classic synth waveform at c2 and row 1 is a sample of two cycles from the same synth at c3. Now you want to play a G2 pitch. You want to cross-fade the two sounds almost 50% each, but the row0 need to be played about 50% faster than normal and row1 needs to be played about 50% slower than normal to get each one to play at the proper pitch. You can't just x-fade the 2 notes.

    ...or am I missing something about the way the samples are recorded / stored read here?

    Aha, yes I see what you mean. I was thinking the samples would be normalised to all be single cycles. As to how exactly this would be achieved? Hmm...
