It's a bad idea. With weak processor + small memory, those laptops were designed for surfing the net & other simple tasks. Even the more powerful netbooks are barely meeting the minimum spec for Traktor, and you can't upgrade them!

The system requirements seem to be:

    Windows XP (SP2, 32 Bit)/Vista (SP1, 32 Bit, 64 Bit),
Pentium IV or Athlon 1.4 GHz (SSE1),
    1 GB RAM

The Samsung NC10 has the following specs:

    Windows XP Home
    Intel Atom N270Processor 1.6GHz, 533MHz FSB, 512MB cache
    1GB Memory & 160GB HDD

It is easily upgradeable to 2GB memory (and I will do this).

The specs seem to be satisfied fairly comfortably...

It looks OK on paper but the Intel Atom is not comparable to a Pentium 4.

Can you specify more details in how it works for you?

I'm interested in getting a Netbook to work on my own mixes, not doing any live djing.

    Thanks!

I agree with Macaque909 . Using a netbook like this is asking for trouble. Meeting the minimum requirements is all well and good but when people are having problems running the program on much more powerful machines it seems to be a costly risk.

Im quite sure that people can get TPro working on slow machines in fact in the past on the forum people have boasted all kinds of crazy successes but ....

There will be a lot of "i told you so" if you run into difficulty with a Netbook.

I played around with Traktor Pro on my NC 10 and I can confirm that you won't get far with that configuration, the current Atom CPUs just don't have enough juice yet.

A 1.6 gig atom is like a 900Mhz pentium-4 class CPU, give or take- but with even less cache and worse host chipset. It's not a machine for mixing on. Seriously.

I have an Atom based machine, and it's a great little machine for browsing, and for note taking, but it's not a media workhorse. Just a slick lil low-power box.

There are lots of machines that don't cost a lot more, big ugly laptops rather than cute netbooks, which will work just fine- core 2 duo things over 2Ghz that don't cost a lot. They just hurt your shoulder a bit more to lug around. Get one of those. As it goes, Samsung actually make some pretty decent value machines in that sort of form factor too, as do lots of other folks.

You'll also get a better pitch KB and a bigger screen too, which is nice :)

    Thomas @ NI - rotfl!

I bought Acer Aspire One AOA110 which have 512Mb of RAM and 8GB SSD. It's also based on Atom 1.6GHz... I just upgraded RAM and I've added 1GB of RAM.

If You are using SSD You need to do this things:
    1) Disable prefcache in Windows registry ( use google )
    2) Disable Windows Restore
    3) Disable Virtual Memory

Traktor Pro will works fine even if You choose High CPU in Perferences

OK it works fine, but I'm wondering why nobody wants to say wahat latency they can get on a netbook?

Anyway, I got a netbook today with an Intel Atom CPU, so I can test it for myself now......

OK, so I went to try TPro on the little netbook, but first I decided to run the DPC latency checker. And it doesn't look too pretty (see attachment) :(

The screenshot was taken with all the usual stuff disabled. Although I'm going to try and optimize this machine some more, still deciding what to do, a dual boot isn't really an option when the HDD is only 12GB :/ This machine is mainly for 'normal' use so maybe a second hardware profile could be the way to go?

If ayone is interested, the netbook is an Asus EEE 901:

Atom 1.6 is fine both traktor pro and 3.4 - CPU utilisation around 40% - make sure to turn off wifi and btooth if gigging - the spkes are usually btooth.
