I know it's not out yet, so I don't know how well it is understood.

But, in the coming 2.2 update, can anyone explain the idea behind the scales and chords function?

And how it might work with the pads etc?

    Here's the blurb:

MASCHINE 2.2 extends Keyboard Mode with a new scale and chord engine – fully integrated into the MASCHINE workflow. Simply select your scale and start playing melodies on MASCHINE’s 16 ultra-sensitive pads that are always in key. Engage Chord Mode and play chords directly into your compositions.

think it mean maschine can automatically generate chords for the selected sound; which will be mad useful for me with no musical ability

Will it make up for not having a keyboard? (somewhat)

Maybe they'll even give us banks of chord variations that we can configure on our own...

Playing Chords from the pads has been a request for years ala what KORG does, but people always derailed the threads by trying to make it more complicated than what it needed to be.

Yeah. From what I'm getting it should be the same chord functionality that is in the Kontrol software. They have preset banks of chords though I don't know if you can make your own banks which would be cool. IF the control is any indication they covered most the bases in terms of chords and scales.

If you can't make your own Chords that does take away from it for the way many want to use it.

I don't know why but I get excited every time an update is done. I think each time no matter how small the changes, they are usually for the better. Chords and arps could be very very useful!

so if making your own chords is available that would mean that you could finally set your own midi note on the pads in maschine mode right?

    That is certainly a desire!

    not necessarily...

chord mode typically is a chord form with the hit note being the root..
scale mode OTOH may do that..(ie allow 16 pads to 2+octaves).
or scale mode may not..scale mode can also be dumbed down to just force the note you hit into the nearest scale note (ie can hit 16 pads but only 10 different notes)

i would look to the user manual on the new keyboards as dont they do the same thing?..

If you look at this page and specifically this image of the Maschine Mk2 screens, I think it's quite clear that the scale and chord features will work in unison so that the scale settings will set which notes the pads play in keyboard mode and then the chord sets the chord type to be played, with each pad as the root note (as per Mystic38's first example).
So you can just have scale on (single notes of the specified scale), just chords on (chords based on the root notes of the chosen chromatic scale), or a combination of both scale and chords (chord types based on the root notes of the chosen scale).

I would like to be able to change the Em in that image to E, so I could play in the relative minor (Am, in which case
E would be the dominant). The ability to switch instantaneously back and forth would be even better.

So looking forward to this! Will definitely make playing with Maschine even more fun.
I hope November means the first of, not the last of November...

I'm guessing just changing the scale type should allow you to do this. Hopefully there will be a good selection of scales, though I'm 99% sure it will be the same selection as found in KK.

Sounds good. The "November" release date is a little vague though
