Hey, everyone, newbie here. I'm using Scarbee Rickenbacker Bass in Pro Tools 12, and I'm trying to write a bass slide from C up to the next C in the midi editor. Anyone know how to do that?

Sustain pedal needs to be held for slides. Please read the manual. :)

Thanks, but I'm actually trying to write it in using the midi editor (I don't have a pedal). I've assigned CC#64 to the slide mode control, and I believe I'm writing in the sustain correctly, but it's not working. Untitled.jpg

Notes need to overlap during sustain pedal to slide, too.

Thanks, that didn't work either though. I'm going to get a controller. The manual didn't mention being able to write in the sustain in the editor, it gave instructions on how to do it with a controller, so maybe I can't write it in. :/

It's the same thing whether you play it or if you draw it in, really. You're doing something wrong, I get slides over here just fine.

Note that velocity of the overlapping note has effect on how fast or slow the slide will be - lower velocity for slower slides.

Thanks, but it seems as though either the sustain function isn't working or I don't have it set up correctly. I got a controller and sustain pedal, but when I use the pedal it has no affect at all (not even on one note, independently). I've tried every combination of where to draw the sustain, overlapping the notes, using different velocities, and using different notes that I can think of. Nothing.

This is all you need to do:

So, sustain pedal pressed before the overlapping note starts. Also make sure that CC#64 is set up as slide controller in settings of Rickenbacker Bass (gearwheel button in top right corner of the GUI).

Hey, thanks! I used the exact same values and positions, and still nothing. And CC#64 is the slide controller. I think CC#64 may not be functioning in Pro Tools 12.8 (I've heard(seen) rumors of that). I may purchase a customer service plan and ask them. In the meantime, what DAW are you using? Thanks, again. slide attempt.jpg

I'm using Reaper. But this works in standalone Kontakt just as well.

DAW in which sustain pedal doesn't work. Just awesome. I'd stop using that abomination :) "Purchase a customer service plan"? So even pay to get help. Save yourself the money...

Whoooooooa, I take that back! I noticed I used a higher G here. I just used the lower one and it worked! Thanks! If you use a higher G, does it work on Reaper. I guess I'm just using notes that can't be slid (C1 to C2), or I have to specify which string I want Scarbee to use. Anyway, thanks again!

If the slider will work or not, depends on the picking position (the white line above the fretboard). And yes, specifying which string to use is also a way to go, there are keyswitches for that. Again - all this info is in the manual :)

I still won't take back stuff I said about PT, though. :p

Ha, no worries! I'm just starting to get to know PT, so there's no loyalty yet, lol. Thanks again, man.

That screenshot doesn't show if you have CC #64 set to max before triggering the destination note for the slide.

This is part of the problem... I don't understand what any of that means! These are the only references I can find to CC#64 in Cubase or Kontakt. The velocity of the note on the sustain key is set to 127... Is that not what you mean?

No, velocity is one thing, MIDI CC is another. CC #64 is sustain pedal. You can use it if you have it or draw its value in in Cubase's piano roll editor. Consult Cubase's manual if you're unsure how to get to editing CCs.

I have a sneaking suspicion if you click on that + sign in lower left corner of your second screenshot, that it will add a CC lane and ask you which CC to select for editing in that lane.

Sorry for being dumb, man and thanks for helping. When I press the + sign you suggested it opens up another velocity channel and if I right click I get these options:

Yep, try the Show/Hide Controller Lanes.

That just made the two velocity tracks disappear...

Holy ****, I found it! There's no indictor that it's a drop down but I clicked by the name and the option came up! Now sliding - thanks so much Screenshot 2019-09-18 at 20.42.09.png
