    Hi everyone,

Thomas Hansen Skarbye, the man behind the Scarbee piano and bass libraries has teamed up with us. He will now work directly with the Kontakt team on new instrument emulations. This partnership was announced today, so I am copying the text here since I am sure it's great news for the Kontakt user community!

    Regards, Thomas

Native Instruments Announces Partnership with Scarbee

Native Instruments today announced a close partnership with Scarbee, creator of highly renowned instrument libraries. In the future, sampling mastermind Thomas Hansen Skarbye will work directly with the team behind the industry-leading KONTAKT sampler on further software instruments that will offer the typical outstanding authenticity and playability of the Scarbee brand. Existing Scarbee products will be successively relaunched as self-contained instruments that will be maintained and distributed by Native Instruments.

The electric piano and electric bass libraries from Scarbee have set a recognized standard for the emulation of these instruments, and have become a mainstay of professional studio productions worldwide. Based on the combination of extremely sophisticated sampling and completely authentic instrument articulations that are intuitive to use for musicians and producers alike, Scarbee products rely strongly on the unparalleled sound shaping and scripting functions of KONTAKT.

By settling into a partnership with Native Instruments, Thomas Hansen Skarbye can now focus completely on the creation of further software instruments that will complement the existing Scarbee range, and eventually extend it into new sonic domains. Close collaboration with the NI product design and development team will allow him to utilize all existing and upcoming features of KONTAKT to the fullest extent.

Starting in September, existing Scarbee products will be successively relaunched in "KONTAKT-Powered" format, turning them from sample libraries into self-contained instruments that provide playback and sound shaping functionality without requiring the full-featured KONTAKT sampler. In the process, the products will transfer into the NI product portfolio, and will become available for download purchase on the Native Instruments website.

Great news. I was hoping for this. This will be great to get new voices and effects with the new Kontakt player. I wonder if there will be something out of this for Kore? Alicias Keys? :)

Sounds like an exciting development. :)

However, will this mean that your existing libraries will be encrypted?

Any library reworked by NI will be encrypted (i.e. use the familiar NI Service Center authorization).

Current Scarbee customers who have registered their products will get free updates of the new products, as described here:

congratulations ! goood to hear that two phenomenal companies are coming together ..
am sure some great things are going to happen in the distant future.
i am a huge a fan of VSL libraries and Scarbee Black bass coding .. the way scripts handle the sample to give a realistic playback of instruments.
hope to see greater better libraries in the future.
    all the best !

    Second that.
Would also like to know, does it support alternate tunings? Even just a basic dropped-D setup?

First of all let me say how excited I am about the new Pre-Bass virtual instrument which I purchased today upon getting an email from Native Instruments. But my excitement has been put on pause due to some weird error that won't allow me to open the Pre-Bass using my winrar which was successful with my free Kontakt player Factory session which I installed a few minutes ago.

So now I'm left to ask, what's going on Native Instruments? Are you guys aware of this issue? Is this problem exclusive to Windows? I want to work this out as soon as possible so I can get my $89.00 worth. I love Thomas Hansen Skarbye's work and I want to support more of his future contributions to Native Instruments Kontakt Player. Can anyone please fix this issue so I can join the party too?

    hi pete,
i know the frustration ! when you think you are all set to test drive your dream car and realize you forgot your wallet back home with your license

hope the archive is not damaged, maybe the best thing is to download the file once again .

but before downloading you could probably check the consistency of the archive with the repair archive function in winrar ,

    Step 1:

Open WinRAR and browse to the folder with your .rar/.zip file.

    Step 2:

Highlight the file and click the Repair button from the tool bar.

    Step 3:

In the pop-up window, select "Treat the corrupt archive as RAR/ZIP" depending on which type of archive you are trying to repair.

Step 4:You may get a "Suspicious Entry" pop-up. If so, select All. This may happen several times while repairing.

    Step 5:

After WinRAR has completed repairing the archive, click on Close.

    Step 6:

To extract your file, highlight your new rebuilt archive.

Step 7:Next select Commands>Extract without confirmation

    Step 8:

    The files will start extracting.

    Step 9:

The archived files will be extracted to the same folder as the repaired archive.
hope this works , all the best !:)

I tried your repair method and it didn't work for me. This is the message I got:

! C:\Documents and Settings\DJ Pete Marriott\Desktop\Scarbee_PreBass_Win.zip: Either multipart or corrupt ZIP archive

Oooh, does this mean that the Scarbee VKFX will stop crashing Kore 2 in my Windows XP rig?

No one from Scarbee or NI ever addressed this when I asked.

Hello, user "another_molehill" also posed this question, nobody replied yet:

Will the new Bass libraries support drop-tuning? If so, I will be acquiring Black Bass upon its release. Already e-mailed N.I. tech support without response. Any reply would be appreciated!

Any word on whether or not this thing supports alternative tunings? At the VERY least a Dropped D?

I don't like new NI naming of Scarbee basses. Black Bass, Blue Bass, Red Bass.. that color naming idea was much more elegant. The rest is cool. Why couldnt they leave the original conception?
