hopefully, the next update will brings us that "Total DAW Integration" we were promised. Im trying to figure out how to, From the Cubase sequencer, change scenes and patterns in the MASCHINE software?

You can change scenes with program change messages. I'm not at home right now, but I'll show you how I do this tonight.

    Maschine project

This is how I've set up my Maschine project:

    -Load the Maschine VSTi.

-Add a MIDI track for each scene with Maschine as MIDI output.

-Rename each MIDI track (MIDI track 1 = Scene 1, MIDI track 2 = Scene 2, etc.*)

-On MIDI track 1 create an empty MIDI part (one bar long**).

-Double-click on the MIDI part to open the key editor.

-Change velocity to program change (pic1).

-Change the quantize setting to 1/1.

    -Select the pencil tool (draw)

-Left-click in the controller lane to add a program change message (pic2). To select scene 1 you have to add program change message 0 (instead of 38 as shown in pic2).

-On MIDI track 2 do the same as MIDI track 1, only with program change message 1 to select scene 2.

-On MIDI track 3 do the same as MIDI track 1, only with program change message 2 to select scene 3. Etc.

-Mute all MIDI parts and duplicate them x times (pic3).

-Now you can unmute MIDI parts to arrange your song (pic4). The sequence as shown in pic4 is scene 3, scene 6, scene 2, and scene 9.

*Since Maschine lacks the ability to rename scenes, you can also rename the MIDI tracks "1. Intro", "21. Break", 66. Outro" for example.

**You can experiment with part lengths. I use a length of one bar, so I can change scenes every bar. But if you like to change scenes every 1/2 bar for example, then use a length of 1/2 bar.

What I don't understand is why when I hit a program change to change scenes, it starts playing in the middle of the scene, instead of at the beginning. But it doesn't do this for every scene. Only longer ones (like 16 bar patterns). I'm in Logic.

Thats an interesting approach that Lotuz has posted .

I use Cubase 5 and for me building a song is usually making the beats first and then adding the instruments. I make a four bar beat pattern and copy it to 6 or 7 pads . I then make variations on this beat for breakdowns changes and such. Whem I'm ready to try the changes I use the program change mode and out put the pad changes to a single midi track in Cubase. This rarely works the fiirst time but it does work. I then build the rest of the song. When I'm fairly sure the beat is what I want I save what I have as a Maschine project file andI export the audio thus freeing Maschine . I then usually want to play with samples of my singers voice and transitional effects so I make one scene thats as long as the song, usually around 170 bars. Then I can go through and lay in samples at different points .Maschine is good at staying perfectly in sync with Cubase,

This approach works but is pretty inflexible because its hard to go back and change the beats. Also I'm at the point where I want as little quantizing as possible in my music. Its silly to play a quantized beat and then add swing for feel. I brought Mascine to get away from the ridgid approach of Stylus and to be able to tap in my own beats. Problem is that the Maschine sequncer is so basic you can't tell exactly where midi notes are. I want to sequence exclusively in Cubase; a real sequencer.

Anyway I'm going to try what Lotuz has been doing.

    Hi
I have the same Problem like abradford.
The longer Scenes start in the middle...
    I´m using Cubase SX3.
I turned Scene Sync off but it still starts from the middle of the Scene. What can i do?

    Switching Scense

I got the scene switching to work after going to the Maschine plug-in click on the down-arrow next to "New Project" ->"Scene MIDI Setting" - rest should be clear.

I see how different scenes get highlighted after sending the Program Change event.

But I have the same issue that a scene keps playing according to its length dispite the Progam Change event has selected a different scene already. I don't see SYNC:Off having any effects.

    Can anybody help - Thx

    I found the answer:
All thread above are correct, what's missing is:
RETRIG must be checked and the scenes must be in loop mode (Arranger Timeline must be focus on any Scene with arrows pointing inwards fo the timeline) - now Program change will exactly control when and which scene will be played and how long (until next program change)
