I need a bit of help. So I just purchased the Total Control DJ box set which comes with the Total Control box, DJiO, and Traktor LE. I had to update Traktor to 1.2.3 which was a pain BTW. I finally have the setup ready to roll. But I've noticed that scratching is possible only when the song isn't playing. Meaning I have to either stop or not play the song if I want to scratch. Is scratching a live song not possible with this particular set up?

Since the Total Control does not offer touch sensitive jog wheels it is not possible to scratch using the Traktor LE mapping. However, when you upgrade to Traktor Duo or Traktor Pro, you can make your own Midi mappings which will also let you scratch using the Jogwheels. However you can't pitch bend then anymore... If you really want to get deeper into scratching with controllers you should consider getting a controller with touch sensitive jog wheels.

I'd take that a step further and say that if you want to scratch, use vinyl, or at least a system that employs timecode vinyl such as Traktor Scratch Pro. You can't have any latency and expect your scrathing to work well. Having the touch of vinyl is a huge asset, and then, if you really want to scratch well, you need a good cross-fader, which you're not going to find on a simple controller.

Laptop + controller is not the equipment of a scratch dj.

If you have a powerfull soundcard you wont get any laytency (well minimal), so scratching can be fine with a controller.
