    You don't bounce.

Make sure you have Inputs/Outputs turned on in Live's view menu. You'll notice a dropdown in your MIDI track's I/Os that says MIDI to. That's what you use.

Ok, so from reading this, is sounds like you guys do NOT use Maschine as a Plug in from Pro Tools. You simply create the patterns you want as the stand alone application, then drag/drop them into protools? Is this correct?

I personally would like to use Maschine as a Plug in within pro tools. I think its easier to make changes to my patterns as I see fit without having to drag and drop the new pattern every time. How do i set up pro tools to get maschine to fire off as a plug in?
    Thanks

Drag and Drop Audio and/or MIDI doesn't work as advertised in Pro Tools. This has been confirmed by Native Instruments. Exporting Audio and/or MIDI works fine.

HOWEVER.......Is there a way to get Maschine recording MIDI into Pro Tools sequencer?
If so, what are the steps?

We all know it's 100% possible using Ableton Live. There MUST BE A WAY to get the exact same behavior in Pro Tools:

Drag n Drop Audio and MIDI works fine for mw with Pro Tool 7.4.2 LE and Maschine 1.5.

and what do you mean confirmed by NI?

and no, i have never got Pro Tools to record MIDI from Maschine.

and why if you can record MIDI into Ableton should it work with Pro Tools?.... it doesn't work with
Logic, because of problems with AU plugins not transmitting MIDI.

It doesn't work in Pro Tools 8 using Maschine 1.5 on Windows.
This was confirmed by Jens @ NI in this thread:

What do you mean by Exporting MIDI, do you mean onto your desktop?

Exporting MIDI as a file from Maschine and then importing it onto a Pro Tools MIDI or Instrument Track. By doing this, you can play & edit the MIDI in Pro Tools sequencer and it will play back the sounds from Maschine. I can do much better editing of a pattern using the MIDI Editor in Pro Tools.

If it can be done in Ableton Live, surely it should be possible in Pro Tools.
Why is Ableton Live special in routing MIDI vs Pro Tools? They should both be able to handle Maschine like the video example.
Did you watch saintjoe's video? That's the way Maschine should work in all DAWS.
I understand that it cannot work in Logic with the AU issue.

sorry, i didn't know there was a Windows issue with Pro Tools 8

and yes, i have watched Saintjoe's videos, and i am able to send MIDI in Ableton

i never got Maschine to send MIDI in Pro Tools. to be honest, i don't use MIDI in Pro Tools 7.4 because i don't like it, and i only use Pro Tools for Audio stuff anyway.

maybe someone else can help with MIDI because i can't, sorry.

actually I've found not all apps work the same. What works in one doesn't work in another.

For instance, in Reaper I can send midi out from Maschine to sequence multiple other vsts from Maschine with no problem...I can't do this easily in Live or Studio One, because they don't route midi the same way as Reaper, so it just sends everything on 1 midi channel!

It's frustrating but it's just something we have to deal with, every app implements things differently, some are better with midi routing than others.

I don't nor have I ever used Pro Tools, so I can't comment on that one, but I've been bitten many times assuming it will work the same in different apps, you'd think it would, midi is midi, but I guess they all do things differently lol

    Slightly off topic...

After seeing your NI Maschine sequencing vsts on multiple channels in presonus studio one video I thought you had Studio One figured out. Once you have configured the 16 Maschine MIDI inputs it should work like a charm. But I don't have Maschine and the Studio One demo installed on the same computer, so I can't test it.

yes, that was with maschine as a standalone, not a plugin, and it required me making a new midi device for each midi channel, not ideal, you should be able to simply pick which midi channel you want a track to receive from.

Reaper's midi routing is very simple and easy to use, just open a track, and select where you want it to receive the midi from, no matter if it's coming from a plugin or standalone device.

So yeah, I got it to work as a standalone, but if you want to open it as a vst and sequence other vsts it all falls apart because of the limitations in Studio One's midi routing.

    Maschine is very Dissapointing

This maschine thing is very cool when it comes to quickly getting some drum patterns and browsing your drum library. However, its horrible for any kind of song development and arrangement. I have used it in both Logic and ProTools and both were a disaster. Potentially great songs workflows were completely destroyed because of Maschines inability to have the patterns exported to the daw and the controlled by the daw. I dont mind using maschine sequencer to come up with midi patterns (infact i really really like it!) but I need more control and that is only working out for me if I can Export midi patterns from maschine into pro tools or logic and control maschine via midi sequencing from the DAW. N.I. has never made such a huge flaw in such a great product. I am completely pissed that I spent money on this and I'm ready to start using the MPC again. I dont think words can describe how f'n pissed I am with this product!

Oh and one more flaw, Maschine really eats up CPU usage and makes it very difficult to build and arrange songs in ProTools 8. My favorite thing about maschine is the browser (simply Amazing!) and the flashing lights lol (*SAD*)

Native better get their product together b/c unless they do I will never buy another Native Product again!

you can drag and drop the midi into both of those pretty quickly, then point it back to maschine.

you have to enable the sounds to midi notes options for the maschine groups so they respond to the midi.
